For m they are. I can put up with everything this game has in store for me, even permadeath due to bug/glitch. But the thoughts of other players having their chores delivered by bots is unsettling.

Foraging demands exploration and I love it a lot. I'm to lazy to be a decent farmer/crafetr/miner/etc. So I chose the path of hunting/foraging. You get to surf the map further each day, you get to scout for precious quality nodes, you meet new people, you get the adrenaline rush that each of those can kill you on the spot. Until I will reach every corner of the map, the exploration part will always have something new, instead of doing the same thing over and over again like a farmer for example does. I think the repetitive task of everyday chores encourage botting more than exploration. If you ever cut off the foraging part out of the exploration, I will still do it for the sake of discovery.

I will end with an idea - how about instead of giving players physical curios to raise their LP, you give them the option to improve their character by doing the thing that he likes the most. Like the Skyrim improvements for example. You get to raise your farming skill by ... farming. Like some experience farming bar that if it reaches the top you get a level up and you get to chose form a skill tree the further specialization (may it be planting trees, crops, growing silkworms or bees). The same for everything else in the game. And let foraging/scouting be useful just for discovering stuff/map/nodes, etc.

Just give us clue scrolls.

Give us the old map.
Compass with materials.
Just rip off runescape.

Also, my opinion on the forage/fate system is mundane.
I like the current fate system if only it wasn't so slow to get things.
The old system was good but it doesn't help with your "walking in circles to get bells"
But isn't that what foraging is all about?
The fated curios now are just trophies to me now.
I don't study them.

Maybe the forage system is lacking spice.

Take boletes off the fate system plz. Garbage curio.
Also you talk about bots vacumming afk or w/e but then you say that it's not about the bots.

Make up yo mind plz.

Sorry mate, wrong game for that. It's going to happen, and technically speaking those "harvest area" commands are basically half a bot already.

Small dev teams can't beat bots, takes too much community policing to be effective.

Can we not just directly link something that is hard to bot with fate curios?

Such as hunting? each animal you kill the higher level or stronger type of animals gives more 'points' these points directly relate to finding fate curios and when you find the fate curio it will drop your points down?

I highly doubt bots could fight bears and boars even with high ua, seeing as the combat insists on the randomised attack squares and boars special attacks like 'tusk thromp'

some animals are easier to kill & probably bot seeing as only one defence is needed such as bats, ants, foxes, badgers. Just make these provide a extremely low or even no level of points.

Yes this would benefit hunters and higher skilled players? but since when should someone be disadvantaged for being a stronger player?

suggestions...

dont really like the clue scroll idea - too mainstream. haven isnt mainstream

It's not about the bots. It's about a system that encourages players to use bots to maximize their game time, either through poor design, grind, or tedium. Gettling the best curios for LPs previously required a lot of foraging, and that's tedious with a lot of grind. Now, from what I can tell, the best curios are generally crafted late game, which people hate because it's not as profitable as it was before, though it still suffers from being botted.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

jorb wrote:So the bottom line is this: I would perhaps not even mind a more reliable output of those curiosities, or whatever, but what I do mind is the fact that anything as simple as a ratio of such curiosities per map units covered by mindless walking will serve to reinstitute vaccuum bots (and those might already be a thing for all I know), and that is simply not kosher.

Feel free to discuss in terms of solutions.

We see here bots are the problem.

We see here they aren't. Ok....

Can you explain the last sentence?
How is crafting now not as profitable as before?
"Though it still suffers from being botted?"

Just trying to understand.

Again, any feedback we all give is purely anecdotal, so if they want to tweak their existing idea it'd be best if they add diagnostics to the server to see who did what before getting curios. Straw dolls aren't your only option and if i weren't lazy I'd do much better than that for a line-up, depending on time to invest in a session.

The real potential bottleneck is when exp is insufficient to even get 2 mil LP with optimal curio rotations. So between those two systems more diagnostics are needed and I love the idea that they're discussing things and planning them out rather than implementing a whole lot of content. Rather they have a clearer vision and theorycraft stuff before they add more. Good job on that Loftorb!
