Collegiate exams are the ACT and/or SAT (most schools use one or the other). First is one that can truly be gamed, but odds of a perfect score that way are very slim. Latter has a "guess penalty" of 3 pts, a right answer is 5 points, and blank is 0 points if memory serves right. The SAT is mostly for higher end schools (MIT, Harvard, Yale, etc etc etc). Neither of these really comes close to an IQ exam, though, as they're progressive from basic "8th grade" education to mastery of entry level collegiate topics (language skills, math skills, scientific reasoning, comprehension).

As far as government jobs go, there are competency tests you have to pass that are effectively IQ exams, but limited in scope. The US military has their own special suite of tests called the ASVAB (American Service Vocational Aptitude Battery). It's rare to get perfect on it as it covers a very wide range of subjects from mechanical, math, languages, to scientific and other things that the military would need to find out about a person to assign them jobs. (Most people in peace time get to pick jobs if one is open and they qualify... if you don't qualify, well there's always the infantry.) It's not too far off from an IQ exam if memory serves.

I've read about a few more specialized agencies that do full IQ exams (CIA and NSA, not sure about FBI), as well as all kinds of personality and other tedious crap that goes with getting security clearances.

Again, it is not. We just haven't figured out the entire code yet. It's part genetics, part environmental. It's only irrational if you don't understand how to add 1+1, and we're not even close to understanding what '1' is yet, at least in the way of psychology/sociology.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Ehehhh... you have to think better about this. Just to know, where you come from? Are you from US?

Btw, from your answers I beleive you think that science is the truth and that we will eventually understand everything about the nature, that's litterally impossible of course. Who are we? From where we come from? Why we even exist or the matter exist? and so on ... science is just us that force nature under some test, and sometimes we can find something usefull for us, but not the Truth.
Example: F=m*a, Newton, one of the greatest man ever. F=m*a it's not true, it's not true that the force is equal to mass per accelaration, it's just a convention that works under certain circumstances. Scientists know very well about this.

Instead the "Nature" is irrational like everything and doesn't care about our stupid way to think or anything else, it doesn't care at all about us.
Nature is everything and nothing, Nature is good and evil, Nature is us and everything .. in short words is irrational.

The way to think we have nowadays (that comes from Christianity), that the man is the master of Nature, is very dangerous .... and it's one of the main reasons why our civilization is declining. (probably in the future people will look back and considering us very stupids, cause the thing we consider the man at the center of the universe, in the same way how we look back and consider our ancestors, that considered the planet earth at the center of the universe)
We don't care anymore about the human, but only about what is usefull, productive, efficient ... and if not it's to thrown away.
Well it's already happening that men will start to threat themself like something to throw away.

The law of non-contradiction is the principle of rationalism, that we invented and we need to learn to regulate our communities, our life in the world.
A pen, for the rationalism is just a pen to write ... but clearly it's not the truth, a pen can be a weapon, a toy for a little kid, a tool, etc ...
The world where stuff is not just a definite thing is called irrational, or Sacred.
I understand is not easy to see, first of all cause our language is rational, we understand each others only under rational thinking, that's why it's usefull for us, and why we inveted it, but it's not like that ... it's an our creation, like F=m*a.

It's not true that a cup is just a cup to drink, it can be everything else .... and it's why when a little kid take in his hands a cup (maybe of glass) we are scaried and try to take it him away ... cause the little kid could do everything with that cup ... why? cause he hasn't learned yet conventions, rationalism ... and he is pure irrationalism.
But don't beleive that when we grown up that dimesion will leave us, irrationalism it's our essence and will drive us for our whole existence.

P.S. I can only give you examples, cause i cannot explain you with rationality (our language) what irrationality is.

Good to know you're still at it.

We, collectively, know less now than we knew at an earlier date? No. That's just wrong.

No one has ever taken nihilism seriously. I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Growth and progress are very different thing. Yes, Greeks knew much more than us today, and it's pretty much why everything has born from Greeks.

Nihilism is a very serious thing and we are fully in it, like Nietzsche annouced. God is dead.
He said also that we will take 50 years to understand what he was saying ... well, after 150 years we are starting to understand now.
Nihilism is pretty much 3 things: the purpose is lacking, the why is missing, all values are depreciated.
We are fully in nihilistic times since 70-80, according to today's philosophers.
I know what i'm talking about.

I don't even know where I would begin to describe to you just how wrong those two statements are.

I know what i'm taling about.

I suppose the joke is on you, I'm an avid reader of Nietzche. If you take the time to read literally a single one of his works you'll recognize almost immediately that he's adamantly against the idea of nihilism. The circle jerk by male adolescents around quotes of his they've seen on the internet somewhere is pathetic. Nietzsche's works are not something that is under intense modern philosophical review, the implications of his ideas were understood very early in the 20th century. He's not some prophet that people make him out to be. Please stop, it's embarrassing.

Either you don't have any idea what the word "nihilism" means, or you're under the impression that society as a whole thinks life is meaningless and there is no value in moral, ethical, or religious beliefs because of that. Protip: society doesn't think that.

sMartins wrote:We are fully in nihilistic times since 70-80, according to today's philosophers.

Philosophical consensus is rare, if not non-existent. What does "nihilistic times" even mean?

sMartins wrote:I know what i'm taling about.

No you don't. Go read a book or go to school instead of regurgitating trash you saw on the philosophy board on 4chan.

eheheh :D sure ...
I was willing to explain what irrationality means, I cannot start explaining to you what nihilism means on a forum and in English language.
You are making joke of me only cause I'm not a native English speaker and even not that good with this language, most of all to talk about these stuff.
I'm saying to you what philosophers say, it's not my opinion.
Probably you need to read again Nietzche, or better find someone who explain to you what he was talking about.

No, I'm pointing out you're perpetuating an incredibly common misconception about Nietzche's work. Thus Spoke has been translated into a hundred languages. Language is not the problem.

Language is the problem for me when I have to explain to you.

Sure, read some more books and you'll find out by yourself ... you like reading from what you said, so should not be a problem.
