Just read all the posts on why/why not playing HH11; here's my story in a nutshell:
I started playing about 7 years ago when my oldest son turned me on to the game. He got busy with life and stopped playing after a while, but I was hooked and played off and on since. I only have satellite internet so interacting with other people is tedious (and fighting out of the question) so I am a hermit just playing to relax. I will probably continue to play until the game (or I) is (am) no longer, as now I play to remember my son, who passed away this spring (he was 33.)
Everyone has their story. Personally, I appreciate the distraction.

It has no marketing; we are what remains of Haven, and changing the game to appeal to your core playerbase is something every developer does if they want to retain an audience. I know the skills to run a game isn't exactly common sense, but unless you have a very large and dedicated base of players (which this game doesn't, it has a SMALL dedicated playerbase), you can't really afford to continually disappoint the audience without the game inevitably losing most of its population. Like what's happening. Right now.

It might be good for the devs to start advertising the game when the core issues are solved. Right now I feel like newcomers would leave quickly.

I agree; I'm not saying we SHOULD be advertising, just that because we are not, the most reasonable source of new players are from word of mouth; which is fine and charming and all, but if you don't appeal to the current playerbase, then those who DO talk to others about the game will eventually lose interest and quit, causing the population to shrink pretty quick.

With that in mind, appealing to the players who do play right now is probably wise; not that they should bow down to every whim and request, but that designing features while keeping in mind what the community generally likes/dislikes is good.

Sketchbooks, is a great idea, but to pay for them?? Out of pure principle I'm leaving. I tried to use paint program only to find that even on 1 pixel I would still need to farm 1000 bones for the 100 bone glue required to finish the fucking knarr i've spent the last week building. Literally almost done thinking sure this'll be fun to finish off my knarr with the picture and BOOOOOM!! A. buy something B. farm 1000 bones or C. download gimp and then figure out some way of making a picture that won't require as much for a ridiculous "decoration"

WTF!!! Essentially making this a pay to play game, wow I'm stunned what a great game can't believe this. I paid the 15 bucks bcz it wasn't pay to play... geezus what a waste.

Learning new things isn't that bad as one might think, also there are quite some howtos on making sketches that don't require animal genocide.

At worst it's pay to use photos (instead of what the system is advertised for: heraldic banners) or pay 2 be lazy (and had no gameplay advantage).

I'll quit as soon as there IS private servers. I want a coherent world with all sorts of people playing, not split into fragments like UO's Felucca/Trammel

Likewise. Private servers work best in games where a large population is a problem and that it must he split (when the playerbase has very different play styles). Private servers would make me quit, and would be the death of this game.

I will note that there could be a balance between the single player experience of Unreal World (and other similar games) and H&H that would call for "small group" (4-20 player?) servers. To do that with Haven would be a ton of work with the map gen and several other parts.
