It won't die completely, the 300 odd core player base have shown that they love the game enough to deal with changes and new developments, even if not happy about all of them, they have stayed put even through lag-gate, lol, and are mainly still here even though there remain various gripes and issues with the new system, ( although we did lose some to the p2p aspect ) the problem is that those 300 probably aren't going to make much of a living for the devs and when they start dropping off as a lot of them do as the world goes on, having reached their goals, had their battles and lost their mains, ( leaving only the traders and the peaceful farmers/crafters/larpers ... who don't have an end game as such ) will there even be enough revenue to now sustain the game?
The game is still a brilliant game, I think it is now vastly improved in lots of ways from legacy and the devs have done a good job overall, but it is time to think about some form of advertising imo to draw more players in, in addition to making more information available to new players at the start of the game.
Word of mouth doesn't really seem to work for Haven, partly because it and the devs are unknown I think but also because it is very frustrating to a new player with so little guidance in the early stages, it is quite involved for a game and complicated in parts, then added to that the danger from the wildlife and other players, it is a lot to deal with as a new player.
We don't recognise this so much as we know what we are doing, most of the time, lol, know what to expect and we are used to the dangers and know how to avoid them, but you only have to read through posts from new players and the questions they ask, complaints they make to see this. Not everyone has the patience to stick through the learning process when they don't have a clue what they should be doing, and even less to stick with it after they have died in some way.
We seem to be the exception and not the majority.
I'm not exactly suggesting a tutorial, no-one bothers with them anyway, but just some bit of extra input in the initial stages.
Not everyone wants or likes to use the forum, esp ours, lol.
If they do manage to work it all out and stick around, they then get raided, murdered and raped by the wildlife, lol, come to the forum for help and get ridiculed or told to go play elsewhere ....

.... and then they leave ....
We all need to do our part, devs included, to attract and then to keep the new players.
(Which also means not killing them while they are still naked and stealing their bits of bark ....

)
