I specifically don't play this game for the PvP aspect, let's start there. But it is a part of the infrastructure I plan for. We must defend, we must prepare, and then, once we have a powerbase and a secure location, we can start building roads and other civic buildings and projects.
I play for the people who come in so I can help new people get situated (Give me back my damn Charterstones of Yore, ya bitches), and introduce them to the great game that is Haven and Hearth. But I feel the need to say that what keeps me coming back is the building of communities and the stories we tell after last world ended and it's time for a new world.
I approve of the stat caps, but as I pointed out elsewhere, we need stat and skill decay to go with it. If you fail to use a skill (even through offline usage) that skill will decay. Your stats will decay over time regardless, and maintenance of your stats becomes a thing.
PvP isn't the heart of the game, but those who do PvP as their sole purpose have a serious impact on the rest of the environment. More than the bears and boars and mammoths, they're the environmental hazard, they're the barbarians knocking at the doors of civilization, they are Hannibal.
There are carebears in the world, and there are PvP players... There can be something in between, in many cases this game is limited not by the vision of its creators (a laughable concept at best) but by the lack of vision of its players.
Tired of the way the game is played? Don't bitch about the PvP players, they're not going anywhere. Don't join them in their raids and barbarism either. Build something better, organize something better, give people a reason to stay and keep playing.
The game and your village will thrive when you give it culture and a greater purpose outside the stat grind. Your high stat characters will always fall, and thus begin the climb again. But gone are the days where your opponents can reach heights that are unobtainable to you, the battle ground has been leveled.
Civilization, and Peace has always come at the edge of, or the threat from, a sword.
Quit your bitching about mechanics that aren't going anywhere, (PvP, primarily) and start learning to use the new ones to your advantage.
The carebears need a spine... The PvP players need a purpose... Find it.
