Personally I got ill for 3 days and didn't log in, when I got better I logged in and saw the sheer amount of maintenance shit I'd have to deal with, trees that needed chopping, crops that needed harvesting, animals that needed sorting, and logged out again. Made me realise just how much maintenance time is required every day just to do the parts of the game you enjoy.
Those parts of the game I enjoy had already been dragged down with the changes this world that I only half enjoy them now anyway so I loaded up another game that I could just jump in and enjoy and have barely logged in since.

^That. Haven is not a game, it's a job. And like a job, it burns people out, but since there's no real pay they just quit instead of slogging through it. The only way to stay in the stat/quality race without burning out is heavy botting or severe autism.

Being jobless helps....

a man need only strike another to make him evil."

Making a game that caters primarily to the unemployed is indeed a silly financial plan.

Day 2 after the patch I was resubbed to another game and after a week of no revert I gave even less fucks
Who wants to play when ganks are so easy? Can't run without drinking, every move you do slows you a bit, no solid blue/green defenses, no fun and no one wants fights
Could've just changed the IP mechanics for zigzag/artful and then worked on optimization for a while. Would've been better than just shitting on combat and walking away for a month

Jorb & Loftar need to communicate with players and discuss problems. I think broadcasting would be a good solution to the current problems.

Combat is fine, not really worse than other game mechanics.

What really needs to be done is prevention of bots and to not force everyone to use as much accounts/characters as possible, instead using multiple accounts should be prevented as well.
I'm waiting already 10 years for this.
And this makes combat the shittiest thing ever, because it's about life and death.. of alts, pumped by bots.
Haven is actually the best game ever, I love it, but equally I hate it.

What??

Why is everyone circlejerking about bots constantly? I live in one of the best industry villages in the game probably, and I'm pretty sure nobody uses bots.

People are successful because they have no life and put a lot of time in the game. There are other problems that devs need to focus on instead of bots, those are generally not very useful in Hafen (they were a huge problem in Legacy but that's it)

Stop distracting devs from the real problems

How's that any different/better than bots? o_0

After everyone has built their village and done "everything" the game becomes stale.
A part of the problem is that few wants to risk their chars because of the permadeath. Less action.
Everyone should be able to kill everyone at any time without any rules from day one. No visitor bullshit or nidbanes.
Make the difference between the players their equpment, not their stats. Drop stats and FEPS alltogether.
Make high end equipment complex and hard to make. The loss of equipment and base would be a bigger problem than losing the character.

I've been saying "remove stats" for a while now but nobody took it seriously. Everyone whines about hermits not being able to compete with hardcore 24/7 grinders and devs keep putting bigger roots on combat stats, which is the right direction but they're looking at it the wrong way.

If stats were removed, a hermit who can't grind 24/7 and make an insanely good character to even scratch the hardcore players, could for example grind low-level stuff like 3000 blueberries, and with those blueberries buy a set of good gear to be able to participate in combat, etc.

I agree with everything dageir said, although I do have to say scents and outlaw (no log off after crimes) still need to be a thing.

I'm afraid you're right, permadeath is too hardcore for 90% of players thus hafen is loosing alot of its player potential, it will never have good amount of players, because all permadeath does:
makes pvp not available for casuals
makes pvp available only for hardcore nolifers

until permadeath is not removed, I don't think hafen will ever see increase/steady count in players, pvp is the only reason why many people play games, but if you're not a hardcore grinder(spending more than 4-5 hours a day) you don't have it available in hafen. Pretty sure if you would remove permadeath, after some time playerbase would consist of 90% pvpers and the rest would be some larping peacefools, it is the other way around right now. Just like Rust would remove pvp, it would decrease the playerbase by ALOT, pvp is way too important in gaming and attracts so many people. Many people join up the new worlds and the new players come to this game in hopes of having some PvP, they get dissapointed very fast of how much of grindfest and rat race it is in order to have some decent pvp experience. At the same time, deaths would become less meaningful and hafen would lose its permadeath niche.

It would be interesting to see a server with full loot and raiding, no permadeath.
