You also pay for your studying. It's in the form of a 50%+ income tax. I couldn't imagine having that. Everyone in America sees their first paycheck and is surprised by the amount the government takes even with our relatively low income tax.
shubla wrote:In Finland you pay once like 100€, then you can study for free, and with that price you get stuff lot of benefits, like some healthcare stuff. Of course you have to buy food and stuff like that by yourself, but you get some money from the government to do that. Education quality is good also. Who really cares about rankings. For most people it does not matter.
Not everyone needs an education above a high school level(age 18), so why make it free? Here in America we have a problem of too many people in college even with the high costs because everyone can get a loan. Too many useless degrees, too many people going into fields of study they cannot comprehend, too many "over qualified" employees, too few skilled trademen. The people who actually should be going to college, those with high marks and community involvement, do end up going for free through scholarships anyway.

If you think the USA doesn't have the world's best Universities, you're delusional. If there's one thing that capitalism does, it makes the most out of the best people in our country. There's a reason the worlds largest companies and technological advancements come out of the US.

I hope you dont think that either of them is a good thing.
What?
The top 1% of Americans pay nearly half of the nation's income taxes. Our highest tax bracket is 39.6% for $470,700+ earners. Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2015/04/13/top-1-p ... taxes.html
I won't pretend we don't have income inequality, but to say the higher class pays 0% is hyperbole.
