Pricing oddity

Postby higherark » Sat Aug 29, 2015 7:58 am

I was looking at the shop and came across something very odd.

A subscription offers unlimited game time and a fancy hat. The cheapest of these is 10$ a month under the bronze tier.

Tokens are used to grant one month of game time and cost 15$.

Why the hell would anyone ever buy a token when its far cheaper, and less risky, to buy the subscription? Are the tokens there to be traded in a similar manner to plex, and if so why do they cost so much more? This is further confusing when the subscriptions are described as being secondary things you get to support the devs. The tokens are portrayed as being the main source of game time and as such the cost of the game appears to be 15/mo when its actually 10/mo.

What the hell am I even looking at here? Why on earth would you tell players your game is more expensive than it actually is?

You can trade tokens in game. Since that basically gives you additional uses for your subscription it is more expensive.

Imagine when some rich trader is desperate for game time due to irl bills or an emergency that used his funds for game time. Whoever steps up with a plex(game token) is going to bank off that trader so hard, as being able to trade rmt value in game is well... valuable.

That right there my friends, is pay to win.
