Hafen on portable devices

Postby dariun » Wed Sep 02, 2015 11:48 am

Hi all,

I asked this question a few years ago and was wondering the same about Hafen/Haven 2.

Is it possible to run it on tablets such as iPads, Android tablets or even Windows tablets? I'm assuming it may have better luck on Windows tablets as "all" it needs would be Java really and a usb mouse?

Thanks!

Don't think so.
Haven has always been a PC game and this new one needs graphic card the most to run so it will be taxing to run them on tablets.

If there is a really powerful tablet (expensive) that can emulate windows then it's possible.

To be honest, this sounds like a cool idea but there are a lot of concerns about it. I think Jorbtar spending time/resources on porting over to tablet is on a much lower priority than game development. In addition to that, this game has a relatively small following as is so a tablet client would not be too used.

I read somewhere that it runs on Surface (MS Tablet).

Hmm, I still play Haven on a busted laptop where the gpu failed so I'm hoping the inbuilt CPU graphics is enough on tablets? Maybe I'm wrong?

I assume there are Windows emulators knocking about as I remember my brother having one on his smartphone some time ago.

Maybe I can only dream lol...if it does work it would be awesome. Light and portable Hafen playing!

Just had a thought, transformingdetachable notebooks....they should work as long as they have Windows 7 installed and not 8? (I think??!)

New Bay Trail and Cherry Trail tablets should do the trick. If there will be a graphics downgrade mod, that will make it even better.

It was clear with your previous post you don't know what you're talking about, this post seals the deal.

As long as your device supports Java SE and has OpenGL 2.0 drivers for the graphics processing, then yes, you can run it directly. Surface runs the full version of Win 8.x, so you can install SE to it, but other portable Windows devices may only run the Phone/mobile version. Android only runs ME (mobile edition). Apple hates Java.

Remote desktop apps are always an option, too.

Mabye...

Given the amount of horsepower this game can suck from a desktop processor, I don't think I want to try playing it on an Atom or any other handheld device no matter how much power it has. Haven is one of a few games that makes my computer cooling run up to full power. I'd hate to melt my tablet because the cpu overheated... ¦]
