Areas of the world with no boulders?

I've ventured way into untouched territory, looking for ore boulders. Problem is, I stopped seeing any boulders of any kind after getting about 15 minutes away from my base. I've been going on horseback and on foot for more than an hour and a half now, with not a single rock to go for it.

Are there just gargantuan swaths of the map with no boulders? Is this intentional? Might it be a terrain gen bug?

That doesn't have anything to do with unsettled areas of the map.

Reading the thread it's pretty obvious that some areas of the map just don't have boulders. Worldgen.

Yeah, but areas that have a travel time radius of several hours? That's ridiculous.

Yep, I noticed it too. I like it as it makes some areas more viable than others.. at least until all the rocks are destroyed anyway.

Rocks appear to regenerate over time. Probably with the same mechanic as bushes and trees, so via decay hits.
