PEARLS

I have cooked 12 cupboards of mussels and not a single pearl. What am I doing wrong? Can I not cook the mussels out of cupboards? <---- Have a cupboard open so it cooks them out of there instead of my inventory, or what am I doing wrong ffs.

Pearls, as well as all rare materials, are part of the Fate system. No one understands the fate system even in the slightest, maybe not even the devs fully understand what they've implemented. Anything you hear about it is anecdotal conjecture that probably has no bearing on reality. Just know that Fate is not random in the slightest.

Don't think so... they still occur in veins underground (silver, at least :p), and it would be very odd to only generate the whole vein once some fated char used rustroot above it.
The gold pebbles from digging clay? maybe.

IRL quartz has been a great indecator of possible gold, but not always.

No, ore veins are set at world gen. Unless you mean by luck such as via digging clay for gold pebbles or golden eggs from chickens, then those are probably Fate.

the answer "fate system" is biggest non-answer ever, getting pretty tired of hearing it
