Who does still use XP?

Postby Schattengaenger » Tue Sep 29, 2015 2:20 pm

Hi Hearthlings,

As the title suggests I'd like to know if there are people playing the "new" haven and hearth on Windows XP.
Because of certain circumstances I'm left with a Netbook with an onboard graphics-card, 1,6 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.
The real question for me is, will I be able to play HnH with this piece of crap when I finally get my new router going
(would be the first time playing HnH on the thing).
I remember somewhat a threat about someone having problems with the Java RE v8 and Windows XP with a problem that was/is "impossible to resolve".
Should I keep my hopes up or should I barry 'em in the courtyard?

I've tried, it usually crashed in transition, like exiting a house or cave. I didn't try to investigate or fix because it was easier to walk downstairs and use a more capable PC.

I still have to use an old PC with XP, sometimes, when I'm not home. But it has good specs and it's able to run HH despite some loading time for the tiles and such.
So XP, in and by itself isn't a problem.

But those specs ^ will probably be a problem yes.

Heh, I'm visiting relatives in Poland now and only have access to an XP computer, I've tried a few dozen hacks to try and get it running, no dice.

You may be shit out of luck, my friend. :(

Too bad,
Then there is only one thing to do.
My in-game name is Lodric and should my Estonian friends stumble uppon this post, you are free to raid my home and take everything you need, although I would appreciate if you leave my HF intact so if I find another way of playing again I don't get spawned in the middle of nowhere

Completely this as long as you have a computer that meets the requirements of being able to support OpenGL 2.0 and I believe running Java 1.5.x. Operating system won't make a difference otherwise.

Though I understand loftar is working on some changes to the client, it does need a significantly faster CPU and GPU than previously (or even the Salem client) to run. It may not be enough, though, if you do have a slow system. Keep an eye on things, though.

I would be surprised if you could play legacy Haven on that relic.
"...the dungeon and shackles are already at my threshold to show me here and now my eternal disgrace. Only you can work the miracle to make life possible for a soul so imperiled by doubt, O Atoner for all, exalted beyond saying." - St. Gregory of Narek, Book of Lamentations, Prayer 1.

You are much loved! Love in return!

You could play legacy on a fast P3, and all these netbooks and such with Atom processors are at least 2-3x faster than any P3.
