Starvation?? Really?

According to some things in maze's bawww thread, some of you (correct me if I'm wrong) keep you and your alts at a very low energy threshold, generally.

Maybe it's just because I'm a casual hermit, but I don't get that. I have one entire cupboard dedicated to food. I could really use two, because I get so much meat - chicken and rabbit - I don't know what to do with it all. And I've recently just built two houses.

Why are you starving yourselves?

Maybe they are in 50% efficacy and are waiting for hunger to drop so they are back to 90% or 100% before they use that food?

Starving and having food are two entirely unrelated things in this game. Everyone has enough food, but you usually do not just want to eat it.

I didn't realize how much dmg it would do.

It's a dangerous game to play.

These are the mechanics of the game so best you get used to them. Personally I lost 55HHP to starvation but luckily I noticed in time. Others learnt the hard way.

I always keep 3 emergency rats on a stick (I call them my emergency RATions). They're low hunger, high energy. 3 is enough to get you from 0% energy to out of starvation.

You don't. But the whole discussion started with one person (maze) closing his client while starving, which normally causes the character to log out after a few seconds, and having the log-out process interrupted by an unlucky damage tick from starvation thus making the character stay online and continue taking starvation damage.

If you log out normally with a button in game menu, instead of just closing your client, then you should be safe

Occasionally not logging out was a thing in legacy too. The logout button feature of refusing to show logout screen without server confirmation was implemented because of it.

Perhaps custom clients should make the X do that before allowing the screen to be closed.
