I'm guessing I accidentally Control clicked my traveler sack instead of shift clicking it when I equipped my pickaxe. Less than 5 mins later (I was just prospecting wall hardness) I return to search, only to find my bucket, and the same bats still there, but my travelers sack nowhere to be seen. 2 Weeks of Wax gone. Sad day.

Try scroll-wheeling your inventory out into a cupboard. That bug still exists.
