Letter to J&L

Dear Jorb And Loftar

Without any advertising or promoting your game anywhere new players are not gonna come in other ways than already playing guys recruiting them. But players coming from that arent enough to replace players leaving.
Those players who find this game from youtube or some other place with no friends telling how to do stuff. They cant find enough guidance and quit before even properly playing.
This graph shows high peak of players during past 1 month.
You cant deny that it is going down all the time. And if you dont start making changes for new players approach to game easier or advertise game or promote it in other ways. Not enough players going to come to replace leaving ones. Maybe Xsolla will give you a little boost to players as they can pay in many different ways. But after that, same thing happens, player count starts slowly going down and not enough new players coming in. You can probably keep going like this for ½ year or so. But if you are looking to make community bigger, get more people to pay for game. Stronger support for it. Changes must be made.

Maybe I'll make some tutorial videos when I get the time

Tutorial videos being made is not enough. They should be given enough visibility so new players can easily find tutorials for game without digging deep into the forums.

I mean JC & I can stream more, but the fear of people watching our bases is kinda annoying, lol.

if J&L made it a semi side project to remake the starting area with signs, and have a link at the top of Hnh to "guides".
anything to make the game new and friendly.

Salem has had way more streamers and it's much easier to break in a base there than on here but either way these types of games and this one in particular are not the best for streaming and I'm not even talking about the inherent risk that goes along with it but rather most daily activities are quite boring to watch.

It's not the greatest avenue when it comes to advertising but I agree they can't rely on word of mouth forever. There certainly has been a decline in player count thus far.

First start to put stones in noobland, then think about advertizing.

You can get stones from any patch of mountain terrain; this is not a problem at all.

Exactly. Boulders are self explanatory, Noob clicks on weird stoney thing and instantly realizes that its stone and used to make stone axe. Not everyone know that they should first find stone biome and dig.. Only to make axe

This is exactly what I said a few days ago somewhere, there does need to be a bit more guidance in-game initially for new players in some form or other without a doubt. It could be done via rune stones in the starting area, obviously special indestructible ones, lol, you know what we are like .... ;) .... or maybe in pop ups when you discover something new, or a msg like there is when you hover over the food/curio/clothing icons etc, just giving a brief explanation.

The decline in players is a separate issue - that comes from many things, unhappy at changes and direction the game is taking, being raided, killed (as always happens) and boredom ... this new world is much, much slower paced and I find myself getting bored at times, added to that the cost of everything from skills to buildings, the lack of trade and the rubbish ore/stone, bloom/slag ratio ... seriously, I have all the metal working skills on my hermit char bar Deep Artifice and I average one bar every other load, it's frustrating to the point that I wouldn't even bother but then you can't advance without metals .... you probably don't really notice it in a village because many hands on deck, rows of smelters and players that still specialise but for small groups and hermits it's a nightmare, esp if you have to travel to get your ore in the first place, as I do.

I understand why they slowed it down but it isn't working as intended, if you get too bored with waiting for things or feel you'll never get there, you will quit. It's taken me all this time to get three bits of bloom and then because at that point I wasn't aware if you left it it would revert to slag, I left it and lost it, I haven't even tried again since because it took smelter after smelter after smelter to even get those and atm I can't be bothered to go through all that again.

Lol, sorry, I seem to have unintentionally turned this into me moaning about metal production .... .... but, yes, more needs to be done to help new players understand what they should be doing, but imo it's not enough to keep them still, the game needs speeding up a bit.

Then some form of advertising.
