Because Alcoholics Anonymous is for quitters! (Seriously, though, if you have a problem with alcohol, get help. It can be good for you and can taste great, but if you can't stop hurting yourself or others, seek professional help.)
Ok, PSA out of the way... After the off-topic discussion in another thread, I figure it's time to get this one going again. Anything alcohol related, be it techniques, recipes, favorites, hates, you name it.
I'll start off with one I tried recently: "Not Your Father's Root Beer" It's produced by Small Town Brewery in Wisconsin. (Closest thing to Germany in the US you can get as 90% of the state is, or at least was, German immigrants in the 19th century. Best Oktoberfest celebration in the western hemisphere there, for sure, and youngest drinking age... 14 if in your own home under parental supervision if I recall right.)
What is it? A dark ale with vanilla, honey, and other spices, and it really does taste like root beer... mixed with a shot of bourbon. It's 5.9% alcohol by volume. I'm not 100% sure on if I like it or not. I was expecting more sarsaparilla or similar flavors typically associated with root beer. It's very sweet, and at first reminded me of some Mad Dog or cheap flavored schnapps I used to drink a lot of when I was younger and couldn't afford better booze. I had seen an ad for it a while ago, but hadn't said anything to anyone. A relative brought over a six pack out of nowhere for new year's celebrations, two got drunk. I'm working on a third for now, so it has grown on me a bit. If you have a store that lets you mix and match bottles, its worth trying at least, but definitely one not a lot of people are going to care for enough to drink a whole six pack before it goes bad.
They also have a ginger ale. I'll note that this brewery is coming up with some other strange concoctions, too. It'll be interesting as to what they're like.
