Haven without permadeath

Postby overtyped » Fri Jan 22, 2016 1:14 am

Here is what happens without permadeath. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZERGog8oegg
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

No, I can't see there's any chance whatsoever that we'd ever remove permadeath.

There are primarily two aspects of death that we are considering:
  • Death sometimes feels a bit... fickle. As mentioned a while ago in some other thread, I think it would be a good thing if some situations that currently lead to death merely lead to quite grievous wounds, so that death can be somewhat more negotiated with.
  • While permanent, death should not be the end. It has been the intention with Haven from the start that one "plays a bloodline", so to speak. The inheritance system from Legacy was clearly an intention in that general direction, and while it had its flaws, the underlying thought is still very much an intention.

Funny video, but Hafen will never become the land of the lazy trolls.

Loftar needs to add voip into the game.

People would abuse it.
Run around with alts making very annoying noises.
Camping villages with screamer alts.

I want voip so much, it would be ideal in haven imo ..... and shubla, in all the games I play that have it I've never encountered anything like that, the most annoying thing that's ever happened was a guy who followed me around for a couple of hrs continuously talking, even though I never once responded, not even initially as I wasn't in the mood to socialise and didn't want him with me ... though I have to admit he made me laugh a few times and when I ran into trouble he fought alongside me. It eventually became 'foggy' in the game and I managed to lose him. :D

No, in that particular game you can only mute or lower sound in general, not on individuals, which means you lose the game sounds, which you need.
There are a lot of ppl asking for it though so maybe an option will be introduced at some point. :)

In Second Life you can block a player though, they appear as some green smoke thing and I don't think you can hear them at that point.

In all the MMOs and MOBAs I've played with voice, you can block individuals. I do know of a few recent co-op games where you cannot block other players, but they're not ones I've played.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
