I just joined! I also just joined Salem..

Postby Craigsgirl91 » Sun Feb 21, 2016 3:25 am

Hi :) I just joined H&H after reading up on Salem (which I also joined yesterday) and the disappointing news that its devs play like gods and have cheated and exploited other players and also harass them. I heard that H&H, although run by the same company SeaTribe, is also run by a better team. So anyway is there permadeath here like in Salem? Also can someone kindly explain to me the whole point of a crafting MMO? I mean I'm very interested but I haven't a clue on what to really do. I have no direction as there are no quests or anything.

1. It's more Perma-Death than Salem.
2. It does have a few quests to get you started.
3. It's run by a WAY better team.
Total misplay.

How do I recover from death if it's permanent? I mean can I somehow reclaim my old characters items etc like in Salem through the inherited method?

While SeaTribe originally developed Salem they handed development and control over to MM awhile ago.

Yes, Haven also has inheritance where you claim the personal claim of your old character and you can also loot their body without theft. Burying them will provide some stats and skills back.

It's very disingenuous to call this game a crafting mmo. While you will be crafting items most of what you'll be doing is keeping yourself and your possessions safe. This is a survival mmo, even if it at times feels like 'Eating Food: The Game.'

You develop and progress your character to handle both PvE and PvP threats. You craft armor to keep yourself alive, gather metals to build stronger walls and weapons, farm to secure reliable food sources for filling yourself up and improving your stats. Ultimately, if you manage to stay alive and accomplish your goals then you've done pretty well at the game.

Most people seek out to create a thriving village full of farms, metalworks, cattle, and other industry. Others seek out players to raid, rob, and kill. The end goal is what you make it.

That's pretty well explained actually. I had a giggle when you said it can feel like 'Eating Food: The Game' because that is really all I have been doing besides looking for a damn birch tree for birchbark! I've spent the last hour searching for one lol!

Birch is such a pain to find. Sometimes when you find a few, they're stripped bare. Other times, you find a grove and feel like stripping every bit of bark you can possibly carry.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

However, as im a tailor this world.... i collect all bark. I think i have collected so much bark, Im starting to think the guys are like.. Kal, stop collecting so much bark.

I disagree, but I would say the distinction has to do with needing more adjectives. Permadeath PvP Crafting MMO gets the idea across.

The point of calling something a crafting MMO in general refers to how valuable the "crafting" class of player are in game. In haven, a hard working crafter is welcome in almost any village as crafting related activities are the method for advancement. In WoW-like RPGs, crafting is almost purely for personal gain and is actually detrimental to level for the most part (until they reach essentially max level and can sell items to recoup their currency investment). Then again, crafting isn't the means for advancement in WoW or most MMOs, it's just a side activity.
