Hunting Tips?

I just got the archery and boat building skills and I've been trying to hunt with a sling, but when the creature loses a lot of health, it runs away and i can't chase it in my boat. So I'm wondering how to kill the animal and not have it just run away

Pick up one boat when you are in one.
Find nice juicy boar, moose, bear and lure it with aggro to some narrow shallow water place you can trap them with your boat.
leave them there and sail a bit off screen till they loose agro
when they do come back quickly and user boat (right click on boat being holded and block runaway way of your future meal)
stone to death!

Your other option is to lure them to a cliff.. jump up the cliff and shoot them from the top of the cliff. When the animal is wounded it will run, let it get off screen then sneak up on it again for your kill shot. Good luck if two of the same animals appear on the screen when you catch back up...

The fact that this is really the way its done makes me wonder if this is how the devs intended this to work... Can we make animals loose speed with damage dealt to replicate how our energy bar works? This is not really hunting, just a game of catch.

Protip: animals won't run if they can path to you when you shoot them. Ie disembark, shoot, embark, move away to lose aggro and come back and rinse and repeat until it's dead.

Do this while you can, it's probably getting fixed next patch, animals will be able to destroy objects while running away.
