Stories?

Postby DeltaBro101 » Sat May 21, 2016 2:42 am

Does anyone have any good stories from the game? like a great hunt or finding your first something? I will start. When I first started this game (after graphic change) I was new, lost and had no idea what to do. I eventually found a great place to settle and started my claim. I Made a log cabin, set up my work items and then focused on improving my character. When i finally was able to kill my first animal, a fox I felt so accomplished as I did it all by myself with only my hunches and guessing to figure out this game. However, shortly after this great achievement, The world ended. So, jokes on me for joining so late.

Just a side note... Every good story here ends in death.

Well it's not really a story, but this topic hasn't gotten any traffic and I feel bad about that.

I feel like this character I have on this world has been my luckiest character so far. Usually I've gotten away with only one death per world, but this one has survived far longer than any of the others. Cumulative experience? Maybe, but I feel like the gods are watching over me when I get out of these "near death" experiences. Boars, bears, moose, badgers, lynxes, bats, all of these I've run into countless times and either come out unscathed or very nearly dead, but still alive. I even ran into a troll once while mining and lived to tell the tale, all in one life.

I was galuf the 2nd and the wizards came by and picked me up while I was shooting boars with shity marksmanship. Shitting my pants for my first time seeing a knar. They told to get on the boat or die. so I jumped on hoping to hearth later on. They told me that I was a muggle and they were gonna sell me into slavery but then they just droped me off randomly for no reason and told me to post on the forums about. that was 3 months ago. Was hilarious sadly I wasnt on my desktop which has recording software.

I've time to kill.

I'm pretty outdoorsy. I like gaming, but it's second to my main pursuits, hiking, gardening, being a bore, that sort of thing. I had busted up my arm pretty badly, not through anything cool; just sheer dumb luck, slipped on black ice during late winter. All the stuff I'd planned to do - for work, for fun, all of it - came to a halt and I found myself feeling kind of a prisoner without my old interests. I'd yet to stumble upon Caves of Qud or URW, but I spent a lot of my time planning trips I was going to take when I could, reading a lot...

Finding Haven and Hearth was another pure accident. There's a lot about it I liked, and disliked, and worked for me personally - but none of that makes for a good story, I think.
I'd just finished stumbling through the swamp - which I did a lot, there was no reason for it, I didn't know what I was doing, and had figured out that you could use leeches to... Stymie bleeding, I think? But I was just doing it for the hell of it, really.
And here comes another player, stumbling through it - just to watch me.

So - imagine an idiot walking around in the swamp, in circles. Never stopping.
And my guest is just watching, transfixed. Maybe they wanted to ask me why, or maybe they knew I was just doing it to kill time.
We never exchanged words, but finally I left one of the blue flowers that I want to call bluebells down, and they took it. Then they left.

Nothing really happened. Maybe they were huge assholes, maybe they stopped playing, maybe they're still here. It was the best moment in the game I had with people, and the type of experience I wish I saw more often, but treasure for it's rarity, too.

In other words, this game is a tragic art project.

There are a lot of stories. Just browse the forums. People post their "let's play" stuff and game journals here in the Inn. The Moot contains stories of raiders and vengeance.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
