What if neantherdals didnt go extinct?

Postby Agness130 » Sun May 22, 2016 4:40 pm

Has anyone wondered how would the world look like if neantherdals didnt go extinct?
Would they breed so much with homo sapiens that they would be aborbed into their population?
Would they dominate the world and treat us like slaves?
Would WE dominate the world and threat them like slaves?

I don't know, Zeler. While Agness might be throwing some random question, this might actually sound like a valid question though I think it might be more oriented towards biology students along with a bit of psychology. Unfortunately I am lacking in one of those fields :(.

I do suspect though that there might be some civil rights activist that will vouch for them since they are pretty much an offshoot cousin of ours. It might not gather as much of a momentum with others though since since people that based their knowledge on assumption will more compare them to monkeys than to humans.

Actually, most of the people outside Africa have some neanderthal genes:

If they hadn't gone extinct due to various diseases then they would of most likely continued breeding with humans for thousands of years. A new species of sorts would of branched off from both neanderthals and humans that would be a dramatic mix of the two. That or we would just see more of their DNA in ours.
If they somehow kept their species separate we would of most likely enslaved them. History would be completely different due to it too, and it would become the accepted norm for them to be slaves. They would probably be slaves even to this day, and would remain so for much longer. Being a completely different species is a lot different then being a different race or skin color. Not to mention that they were supposedly not as intelligent as homo-sapiens.

Some recent studies say that they might have been as intelligent as us,and it is possible that it was neanderthals who taught us using the tools

I think of suspected that, while they are capable of using tools, their advanced thinking might not have been on-par with ours since they advancement with technology might not have been as sufficient. So I suppose that we may have have to uplift our cousins in regards to advancement Image.

The current consensus on neanderthal intelligence is that they were very intelligent, and perhaps more empathic than we are, but they weren't as capable of ingenuity. Their tools were of a design which was largely unchanged for thousands of years. It's possibly a result of their incredibly short life-span though. They were highly evolved to survive in an astoundingly hostile environment. The whole of Europe for that period was very cold and inhospitable. Most of their time was probably spent trying to survive in the warmer months and being depressed when it got colder. They were a much more successful species than us in my opinion, living in harmony with their environment for much longer than we have been around.

If they were around today... They wouldn't have been. Whatever the situation they would have been absorbed by our species, as they were. But if it were possible they would be just like us. We would just think of them as another race of human, instead of as another species, and anyone who said otherwise would have their lives destroyed by the pc police.
