Was Abraham Lincoln a neckbeard?

Postby Jalpha » Mon Jun 13, 2016 9:35 pm

Just for reference here is a likeness of the man himself. He does appear to have intentionally groomed his facial hair to promote it's growth around the neck in particular. His choice of hatware seems inconclusive. His personality and the traits exhibited throughout his life though are things I know little to nothing of and so I pose the question to you who know more about him.

Was Abraham Lincoln perhaps the first of the neckbeards?

Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America, served as the president of the Northern states from 1861-1865 during the American Civil War, also the first U.S. president to be assassinated.

The more you know.

This question falls into part of a larger one. See I had always imagined that neckbeard was kind of like a stage some people go through. Like an ugly duckling phase, a metaphorical coccoon from which they would one day hatch. But if this guy was very prominent and successful then maybe being a neckbeard is something more interesting.

I believe that the term "neckbeard" refers more to the person's lifestyle or some vague social construct that person is identified with, rather than general appearance of that person.

To clarify, having a beard on one's neck doesn't necessarily equal being a "neckbeard".
