Is our primitive heritage better left behind?

Bored, I stumbled across some videos on YouTube. Here's a sample if you're interested.

Guy makes a wattle and daub house from scratch.

Guy makes charcoal from scratch.

This kind of stuff resonates with me and I can't properly explain why. Obviously I'm not alone because people are doing this strange stuff and I thought given this game we all share an interest in some others here may share my sentiment. Is is a good thing though? Are we better off putting aside these past struggles in preference of the new ones we have made for ourselves?

Or perhaps... Would we be better off returning to a simpler life, or even just making room to have these experiences somehow in modern life?

I think that the reason why these primitive practices interest some people is because of the idea of surviving entirely by your own work, and developing your own way of life. Its probably the reason why people play games of survival like Haven and Hearth.

Unfortunately, he can't because someone else posted after him. I'm being intentionally vague in that I could read other things into this message that would warrant forum action. Play nice, children, or the boogymoderator might get you.

Otherwise, shubla is right. These types of videos have come here more than a few times previously. There's a fine line between making a current conversation and necro'ing an old one even if relevant. People go ape shit either way. I think the general consensus around here is that everyone would prefer to see a newer thread than have to reread an old one to catch back up on chatter that may not even be relative to what the current thread is discussing.

I think it is a very good idea we retain basic knowledge our ancestors used. You never know when it may come into use. Disasters and accidents do happen.

I'm with LadyV. If the world does go to shit, and the human species is to survive at all, then the ones that will carry on the gene pool are the ones that can quickly adapt to hiding in the wilderness from the possibly degenerating gene pool from whatever WMD was used, be it an act of war or just simple negligence (aka climate change run rampant).
