Your most profound gaming memory/experience

Postby shadyg0d » Tue Oct 04, 2016 6:38 am

For me it is definitely world 9 of hafen before I quit. I can't really go into details because I have so many stories I could literally write a book, and we are all playing the same game so we all know how it is.

Needless to say I've learned a lot about myself and others and actually changed a lot as a person. I've accomplished things I never imagined possible, some I'm ashamed of and some I'm proud of. Some which were easy and some which required all my dedication and willpower. The relationships and experiences I've had in this game whether good or bad, I will remember the rest of my life. I truly felt like I had lived a life as real as my own. What an amazing thing to come from a video game

Honourable mentions are space station 13 and vanilla WoW. Space station 13 to me was all about being a character with a specific, often pointless goal, and trying so hard to achieve it, like infiltrating the theatre closet to steal a monkey costume to hide amongst the monkeys to assassinate the geneticists. Or chef who kidnaps people to feed their human meat to the unsuspecting crew. Being "that one guy" who does the funniest things that people will tell stories about forever. With WoW it was all the things I could do that nobody else would try, like sneaking my noob rogue into the enemy tram and spending countless hours making the entire faction search for me, while others people were just trying to level up or something...Or trying to turn 1 copper into 1000 gold in the auction house. Or trying to get to spots on the map that nobody else would even attempt

What makes a game profound to me is the ability to set myself apart as an individual, without compromising realistic interaction. To achieve my dreams , to create my own purpose and see it through to the end, or at least fail in profound ways, among others who are trying to do the same thing for themselves. I know it's deeper than this and I wish I could express it better. I wish I could show everyone my experiences, I wish I could watch them all again like a movie before the details begin to fade. The things I've seen...

Wow this ended up way longer than I expected. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say so I'll just leave it here..

Basically this for legacy Haven and FFXI (which I played from like 2003-2009). I still have good friends from both and some are like brothers/sisters/mothers to me at this point.
At the start of this month I actually met a long-time Haven friend and moderator of my livestream channel in real life :)

Honourable mention to Runescape of course, which is the first online game I ever played and it was also the game that taught me how to type.

Also I forgot to mention halo 2 custom games with friends/live buddies.I don't think I'll ever have that much pure fun on a multiplayer game again. Everyone was just so happy to be playing halo together and joking around. It was a different time for sure. I guess it's not really profound in the way my other games were but it was my first game I made lots of friends on and made me the gamer I am today

I was playing a side game of Magic: the Gathering at the 1997 Pro Tour LA stop vs one of the highest rated players that year. I actually almost won. We were using preconstructed decks from the previous year's championship, and the one I used wasn't quite what I was used to playing.

I was there to get certified as a judge. The goal was level III as our tourney organizer needed at least one of us to get the certification to head up the PTQ tournaments we did every couple of weeks. We had 3-4 cities we did. It was a labor of love... and paid for my card collection. :D

For me, it was probably getting rank 4 in 2v2 arena, from a game called world of warcraft.
Ive never been top 4 in the world before, although it was only in 2v2
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Runescape of course. Taught me that there's no bad consequences for ripping strangers off. :P

I had many profound gaming eras starting propably with my older brother introducing me to tibia when i was 10,that was my first mmo

but my profound experience with haven was when i started final grade of my school,it was a time of unknown and danger soothed out with heavy weed and alcohol abuse
it started out on my friend birthday when we were having a sleepover at my house
and of the friends showed me vaporwave
and week later grandmother of the friend found a bag of weed on the street
and friday came,we bought instant noodles and wojak beers and came to my house
we smoked a blunt and it was heavy and we watched shit and drank beer
and then midnight came
we fired a one hitter
and wow
i still remember how i was blown into magical heavens listening to vaporwave while being blinded by led lights of my computer camera
and i gotten memories of me living in the 90s in america and i was a rockstar
and then the birds and the green bushes with orange fruits and they formed a thick wall
and since then we smoked and drank wojak beers every fukken weekend for like 3 months and i even sold my school uniform to buy more weed and flannel shirts xD and all that mixed with playing the new hnh

I killed myself in a river while Jesus watched, it scarred him for life.
