Haven takes place after the apocalypse

Postby TheMiles » Sat Oct 22, 2016 11:59 am

Since I am new, maybe this idea already showed up. Haven is after the apocalypse , all humanity is dead and revived by ancient magic, let loose on the earth anew. The gods, aka devs, nuke this world whenever it is they see need to start over.

At least, I like to think of it like that, since there are rotting farms all around me and I am basically scavenging all the stuff into my own little farm. That, and humans have to relearn the basic ideas of farming and building things.

I haven't gotten into looking if there truely is any lore behind the world in Haven, so I kinda like coming up with my own ideas. Anyone else?

The Hearthling Gods are just as jealous, angry and bitter as the Old Testament God. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

I guess I think of Haven as a strange land I've been shipwrecked upon, maybe it's where everyone goes after being lost in the Bermuda triangle ... :D

There are clearly no advanced species here so we survive and build with the materials available still having memories of crafting and industry from whence we came. I used to ignore the magic and surmise I'd been drinking too much wine whilst mining or wandering about in the forest, lol, now there is a bit more of it, I still ignore it in that I don't incorporate it into my story ... it's just one of the oddities in these strange new lands.

I never think of the devs whilst playing in terms of being connected to the world, this is not a game! ... and there are no gods ... :P

Magic is easy way to explain non-explainable things.

I never said it was right  I just made up some stuff to go along with what I was doing ingame.

And magic IS kinda a thing ingame, so of course it explains a lot of the unexplainable. I mean, heck, you are a spirit that gains a body through water and then are burned into the world by a wizard. Unless he's a technology wizard, I'd say it's magic.

Nothing of this is supposed to be taken fully serious btw.

PS: I spent the first hours of this game, talking to trees. So it could just as well be the hugest drug trip ever, for all I know.

When playing in W7, and even a lot in this world, I can imagine in my head that I live in some kind of post-apocalyptic iron-age society. Of course in real life, people can't simply stop sustaining themselves or else they die, but in this game people can just drop all their tools and stop sustaining themselves when they stop playing and their objects begin to fade into nothingness.

The result is a massive, frightfully empty-feeling world where abandoned claims are more common than active ones. I always find myself getting excited every time I see a bit of paving or dirt on my minimap thinking that I may have found a settlement or a newbie, but usually it just ends up being a shadow of a former player's belongings.

I'm sure if you never went out of your way to, it would be completely possible to play as a hermit and never actually run into another player or an active settlement, only abandoned claims. Thinking about it now, almost all the players that I have run into have been on purpose, either through a trade or meeting on the forums, knowing in real life, etc. Maybe 1 or 2 people I know I actually ran into in the wilderness.

Scary to think about.
