Computer and monitor questions (need help)

Postby Teleskop » Wed Nov 09, 2016 8:35 pm

So i was going to take a nap and i turned the monitor off and i think it turned itself again on lol so i switched it off again

When i woke up my monitor was turned off and computer was freezed so i woke it up but the monitor was still off so i panicked and turned my pc off and cleaned everything and noticed the big computer fan that you plug into electricity isnt working and i was like noooooooooo but i realized that i dont remember if it actually ever worked lol,so if it was working sometime ago and now it isnt and my pc works fine without is there a chance that my pc will suddenly break?

Also back to the monitor,it didnt work,i plugged my mom monitor too but it didnt work aswel so i plugged it into the motherboard instead of GPU (i dont remember if it was even plugged into gpu or motherboard before lol )

and it worked lol but resolution was set back to 800x600 instead of full HD and my windows color scheme is changed to basic

also when i have like 2 chrome windows opened and i hover over them with cursor it makes like a flat list http://scr.hu/0wep4/8enz8
instead of popping two small windows with content of each browser, anyone knows how to change it?

Thanks

Check your GPU's drivers. From what I see it's either your GPU died or drivers.

If it's fried, it's fried. You just have to replace it. I'm not sure what you've got, but check for swap meets. Lots of people willing to get rid of used parts for cheap. Check Ebay, Craig's List, etc. Unless you plan on upgrading the computer for another year or two, I wouldn't bother putting a new one in. The one exception would be if you want to get a DX12 card. There's a couple cheap ones on the market for about $50 US (not sure what your local prices will be.)

Didn't know you were a bassist. Rock on! Not sure what you mean by "new bass"... new new or a new used on, but shouldn't dig into your budget too bad unless you need to get a top of the line video card.

i opened my computer case some time ago and was too lazy to close it so a lot of dirt and dust gathered on the exposed compounds, maybe i even spilled some liquid on it because there are some sticky spots (i tend to spill a lot of liquids...)
the fan on it is still working though so i thought its ok

ill either try to fix it or ask my brother to help me with it and if it wont work then ill take my moms computer GPU lol or buy a new one

i spared some money for uncertain expenses - maybe driving license, new bass or some computer parts as it seems now

From what i understood your power supply is dying...so make sure to change that before it burn out all your other components...
And make sure to buy a good one...PSU is one of the most important component in your pc...

Overheating because of defunct fans can kill off certain components inside a PC quite reliably, also a partly dead PSU could explain the non functioning GPU.

FYI: you get the flat list in W7 when the display either dosn't support the Aero theme (or it is switched off) or, at times, when some application has a DirectX render window open.
