Im planning on making thousands of leather crafts from them.

Give Rimworld a try. Much much better interface.

Wanted to try this game but never got around to it. I really like that tile set. What are you using? Also are there any crucial mods?

This is my favourite game of all time tbh, but sadly can't find much time to play it.

Time is only made and never found.

Dwarf fortress is quite good but I find myself not having the time to progress very far given your stuff expands almost exponentially. And I won't tolerate any idle dwarves.

Dwarf fortress is like candy for autists. Although, it appears you're not at the complete top of the spectrum, only the true autist plays with that eye-rape ASCII gui.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

It is the best game, but something is wrong with FPS when you have bigger mine (more dorfs, bigger industry, nicer looking rooms, etc) . This is only reason I don't play.

Rimworld sucks.
DF is best.
If you have problems with interface its only user side problem.

Its Phoebus 16px. I really like it. There are few mods that I prefer to use. Dwarf therapist for lots of nice profession management things and soundsense for some sound effects. DFhack has some nice features as well. Might even improve performance.
There's also Lazy Newb Pack available which makes it easy to install most common mods and toggle things like population caps. Which are nice if you dont play with some scientific super computer.
Wiki is super useful. Its best wiki for game that I have ever used.

In latest versions performance has been improved a lot, they switched to 64x which probably does not have that much impact. But they also started using new compiler which seems to have improved performance for quite a bit. There are no mods available for those newest versions though, as lot of things that mods used have changed.

You can set population caps to limit dwarves if you dont want hundreds of them. Some mods such as dwarf therapist and automatic job assignments can help with managing labors as well. Also, theres always enough labor in DF. Produce lot of drink and sell it, or set up a huge army. Lots of stuff.
