Trading and bartering

Postby inlinebiker » Tue Feb 21, 2017 1:32 am

I can't say that I have much to trade to begin with but I have seen people talk about villages and trading. Where does this take place? How would I even find people that trade or is that even a thing? What would I use as collateral? How could I know that I am safe from death? The best thing I can make at this point is rope, leather and other simple things. I haven't made it to metal yet. I don't quite want to reveal where I live but I am close to two borders of the map and have traveled quite a bit and haven't seen anything that resembles a village or people who trade to newbies. Honestly I am looking to get a weapon besides a bow or perhaps a stock of good food. I mean I had a swan knock me out for god sake. XD

Careful, they might try to trade their fists for your skull.

There is a forum thread for trading.

http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=59

There is a player made market - Samarquand Community Market - http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=54161

Or you can send messages to people posting other trades, negociate and arrange a meet-up.

Carefull, as everything in this game, trading can get you killed - on the way to the market (note that once inside the Community Market you should be safe for any harm), on the way to the meeting spot, or just plain killed by a malevolent trader. The latter should not be the case with current traders, as they have a long going reputation, but still you should check other player reviews before agreeing to a face to face meeting.

The main problem for you is having something to offer at your end of the trade. Some ropes and twigs is sure thing that can't get you anything, as they posess no value to even an average hermit. My advice is to raid as many anthills as you can. Lure the ants far away from the anthills - preferably with a boat, then return quick back and loot it while undefended. Ant queens and ant emperesses are always in demand and you can sell them for a decent value. Raise your survival to at least 10 before doing so, or no one will buy your quality 1 ants.

As for the rest - play the game, learn the game, read the wiki http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/
If you do it right you will soon start mining, hunting, etc. and craft your own stuff

If you go to Samarqand, whatever you do don't accept their currency. They mint it without anything to back it, so it's essentially worthless.

Awesome info thank you! I will check this out, and the dying part is obviously something I was worried about. I haven't even raided an ant hill as every thing seems to beat the crap out of me. I will try this tactic for sure tho.

Mind that Potjeh belongs to the enemy faction and hates the market. As for the currency concerns:
