I have currently reached 48 per 40 mm. I have a 32q bow and 20+ bone arrows. I cannot even hit a bat once out of 15 arrows. Am I doing something wrong or is this stuff broken?

If you've got a bat cape already, this trick will help you out. If not then hope you're lucky.
I found that the best way to hit bats with a bow and arrow is to walk towards the bat until you actually bump into their actual hitbox.
Now measure out exactly where your feet end, a couple of pixels away is where you should be aiming for.
Back up about 3 tiles away and aim and prepare yourself for tasty bat flesh.
Because their hitbox is so small and archery still wiggles off center from your clicks, you'll sometimes miss. But doing this will ensure in 80% of dead bat.
Or you know, you could always just punch it to death. I'm hoping that they remove the ql drop from bows soon.
