Haven's experience with hackers

Postby DisKagel » Wed Mar 15, 2017 3:55 am

I was curious if there has been anybody who has "hacked" into/cheated in haven and hearth. I haven't heard of anybody trying to cheat in the game besides hacking to other accounts. The game seems like it would be quite vulnerable and would eventually run into something, so has it ever happened?

Jorb got his hands on Loftar's dev client back in 2009 and I think he has just been too polite to take it away, so there's that I guess ¦]

I think somebody said once that if you can decrypt Loftars coding you deserve whatever you can have out of the game. Apparently he doesn't record much reference information in the coding or something. He just sees it all like Neo in the matrix. I can neither confirm nor deny any of this.

Yeah, pretty much, and why I think they're loathe to bring on another coder. The client is readable, but you do need to know how to read and figure out someone else's shorthand.

As far as hackers... there's been DDOS attacks. I'm not sure anyone has explicitly tried to hack the server itself or account file. There was this one attempt at using a modded client to steal account credentials, though. I won't name names as the parties seem to be behaving themselves now, and I believe in everyone getting second chances, but it was a shitstorm at the time. (I'm sure someone will name and shame, but it's not me and refuse to do so.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
