I aim for things that are pretty easy to make/get, but decentish in LP/hour. Quality wise, buying infrastructure/farming upgrades are the most important. CF sourced upgrades helps the steed, straw doll, abacus. All of those are pretty hard hitters. Wolvering scent glands are great if you have an active hunter.

Things that are always in my study: Swan Feathers, Seer's Bones, Dragonflies, Scent Glands, Bark Boats, Feather Trinkets, and Tiny Abacuses. Usually I have an Ant Farm in there, but I'm currently saving up Ant Queens/Empresses for trading.

Scent Glands are pretty good. Sometimes I get q100+ ones which are a treat. Seer's Bones are easy to make in bulk so I always have those, same goes for Bark Boats and Feather Trinkets. I know a few places where q100+ and q150+ swans spawn, so I always have some of those feathers, too. Tiny Abacuses fetch some good LP/hour once you can get them to a somewhat high quality.

Like to keep some things in there that I can make a lot of quickly and easily and last a while (bronze steed, rattle-tattle, leather ball, seers stones are all very easy) but would say that everyone should have great wax seal and after that tiny abacus.
