Looking everywhere

So where do most people hang out? I started playing today and have been searching all day for people. Found plenty of evidence that there are people, like what appeared to be a raided settlement. Was able to get some decent starting gear out of it.

Aurora or Community Fair are the hangout spots, mostly due to trade. Everyone else is hermiting, or hiding behind walls due to fear of death. This just happens to be one of those games where majority sake of the time your interactions with others are positive, but everyone fears the negative, so they stay away. Luckily, those major cities dont allow fighting within the walls, so youll be safe if you make it within them. Dont forget either that the world is rather large, so finding others can be a bit tricky at times with the population.

Hedgehugs and Akihabara seem to be heavily populated as of my recent explorations of them. Just be wary as some people find it fun to chase you very angrily waving swords while on horseback.

Not so much anymore, and it never really was true, just a random joke everyone tosses around. Funny to us vets, but bewildering to the new players when we say it. When you play, do you just hide behind your walls? I never have, and not met anyone who actually does. (Note: when someone walks up to you from out of nowhere, yeah, stay behind the walls to converse just to keep the interaction honest.

The fact is is that it's a large game world and currently there's only a couple hundred people active at any given time. We're about six months into a world, and end game content still needs some work. Other than enjoying the leisurely pursuits of having a virtual life and farm, there isn't much to do to bring everyone out to play all at once.

@OP: If you stick around for a world reset, the game is extremely active the first couple of months. Resets don't happen very often, though, so enjoy the game now. If you have questions, ask. There's more than a few willing to answer questions.

After seeing how long game worlds last this one might be due for a new update! Thanks for the heads up.

Awesome though, I managed to "find" someone's boat and have been exploring the map via the rivers. I'm assuming the "Here be Dragons" message is a map border indicator? I was following a quest and couldn't actually get to it because of the way borders work. The buffer zone for the border seems pretty large, like a whole terrain chunk.

I found Akihabara and was having a good ole' time exploring until two boars and a badger let me know I came to the wrong neighborhood. I decided to start settling down near the center of the map where a lot of different terrains converge near a large system of lakes. Probably won't survive long since I'm so torn up by the wildlife that my hp softcap is 30 and I infected wounds, lol.

its not so much literal as figurative, the stigma from the old worlds has emblazoned the idea upon me and many others; mostly people who are stylized hermits. Obviously its not as true as it used to be, but contact with new players is always an initial scare if you are in a position of vulnerability. But, yes i guess its a bit of a jest, atleast nowadays.
