In case the claim is a personal claim the barrel can't decay, so: what kind of wall and do you have a lock on the gate?

The pickaxe will most likely be in some container where you accidently placed it (scrolling items with mouse wheel, or an accidental click).

My gates are locked. I just went in to my house for 15 second, and when i came out the barrel disappeared. Earlyer, the pickaxe was in my inventory, i logged of, and when i came back online the pickaxe where nowhere. First time i thought that i missclicked and i left my pickaxe somewhere, but after this barrel thing its a bit intersting.

Sometimes, if there's a server rollback, and certain actions occur as just the right time relative to the rollback, you can lose items and constructions this way. Note that under most cases, the starting resources would still be there after a rollback. I'm speaking of certain specific edge cases where everything is completely lost.

I'm not aware of any recent rollbacks on the server, though. As far as I know, jorb or loftar usually posts about them when they occur, but other than a post to the forums, I get no other information about such things.

Granger has the only reasonable explanation on it. I have never heard of items just disappearing without user error involved or in the relatively rare need for a server rollback. (There were a couple of issues with data corruption early on in development, but that ended up taking more than one pick and a barrel.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
