I wish I could make a link to the old Fort Ballsacks thread that was made a long, long time ago (I forgot who started it). But it seems like jorb or loftar deleted the forum history...
From the lurking I have done, the drama in the Inn has settled down, which is unusual considering the population is higher...
But hey! I have noticed there are still a few people here who have played ballsacks before! So lets do it!

On the dwarf fortress website, he is claiming that he is gonna release the artifact update, tomorrow!
I barely can comprehend what this update is gonna look like, but from what I've read, you can actually interact with the outside world as a fortress, and actually start wars by doing this!
But I am aware that in reality, Toady is gonna delay the update by multiple weeks due to bugs. But from his blog posts, he doesn't mention any crashing bugs so who knows :?

update: its been a while, but ITS OUT!

Rules & Guidelines
For anyone new to Fort Ballsacks, this is a dwarf fortress succession game with rules based around boatmurdered.
  • How it works basically is: there is a list of people who volunteer to rule the fort for 1 year, it ends in spring.
  • The time span for posting your events and uploading the save is a week. It is encouraged to finish the year as early as possible, and if you make no feedback in the first 3 days, I will nag you to make sure you are aware its your turn.
  • There are some moral rules which should be obvious like you should not leave a save of the game which is doomed for the next person's turn. And if such a problem arises, then you can choose to briefly mention what happened, and restart the save, or if you lost all confidence, skip your turn.
  • People can join the game while the succession is running, but this depends on how many people are signed up.
  • You can use graphical mods and tools like dwarf therapist in the game, because these don't really modify the save, but no tinkering with dfhack.
  • There are some nit picky things I would like to do, like building a huge pitfall trap, and establishing that we only use this trap for migrants or bards to prevent fps death, since killing enemy with a hole is too easy and boring. But lets wait till we get to that part before we worry about it.
  • Generally you should post pictures of what happens in the fort, if you don't know how, you can use window's snipping tool and imgur. I would wish if we could use the weird recording feature to record any battles, but I have no idea how reliable it is...
  • To upload your save you have to zip(or any other compression) the region folder of the game, and put it on any upload site that you have available, the only thing that matters is that it's accessible, possibilities are: dropbox, mediafire, or dwarf fortress file depot.
For anyone who isn't a veteran to dwarf fortress, you are still welcome, as long as you are competent enough to feed, supply alcohol to your dwarfs, understand what kills your dwarfs, and process some ore and metal, you should be okie-dokie.

For people who just want their names in the game as dwarfs, you could just pm me.

For the time being until the update is released, and implying its not completely borked, I would want to discuss what should the embark be?
Usually when I play I give the world raws no aquifers, and minerals everywhere, with a war going on. But I'm thinking we should have a more challenging area that is half terrifying with elephants ¦]

It's not deleted, so much as the indexing and database was corrupted when there was an attempt to mass move the forums to the archives. Loftar has been working on it as a side project, but it's not something that's going to be easy.

yea, sorry it was just that your name came to mind when I thought about it, but I guess I completely forgot the person who made it... All I remember is that it was a person who had a high post count...

Just a heads up if you aren't currently aware: the new version of DF is going to release sometime this month, after a 1.5 year development grind.(E: this is what i get for not reading)

It'd probably be best to use the current version, which has dwarf therapist, lazy newb pack, graphics packs, etc. fully optimized for this version, but if you're so inclined you could wait on this project 1-2 weeks and try your luck with the new version and all the release shenanigans

A no aquifer start would be nice. I've always preferred untamed wilds for their giant creatures. a river would be cool, but FPS might tank for players who dont have decent CPUs.

Untamed wilds and the "peaceful" biome... because I like unicorn meat.

The update is finally out! I'm gonna try the update for a moment till we get a good amount of people signed up.
:D

the listing will be based off of who posted earlier, even if the post did not include the fact that they wanted to be part of it, as long as they clear the fact up later or with a pm.

No, I don't want to be a part of it. I find it too much hassle. I do enjoy following the games and the stories that come along with them.

Thanks for the notice that the update is out. I think I'm going to give it a few days, though. Trying to play without Therapist is just too much of a pain anymore.

Right now its really fun to go and use any old saves from the last version, and using your huge army to raid fortresses around you :p

but yea, shame therapist isnt out yet.
