Dead Animals Skinned?

I was out on a hunting trip and gathered a fox, bear and lynx before I restarted my client and PC. After logging back in, I was walking around my base and noticed that the same fox I brought back before I logged off had lost its skin. I don't know if this is a bug but neither of the others have been skinned since then.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

When wild animal corpses decay they do it in stages

First the hide decays and then the rest of the corpse.
Domesticated animal corpses never decay though.
