Well since Romo has stopped with his client(only updating it and not continuing the work)

wouldn't you guys say its about time that H&H finally had one client for All? And I don't mean your current default client, I just spent 30 minutes on what would had taken med 15-20 because of I'm spoiled by Amber client.

So J&L how about the next update be the client to end all clients? and once and for all get rid of all the other clients!

They can definitely get rid of all the other clients.
BUT if they could have done a better client than they did, they would have done it years ago. Abandon all hope in official client.

The only thing official client is missing for me (I do not bot) is the acceptance of the fact that eye is faster than mouse. So all the data a player might want to know must be already on screen when he looks. Quality of things, crop stages, ENEMY HEALTH (does anybody hear it, enemy health bar?), everything that might once prove useful. But instead, J&L like being secretive, the official client tells us nothing and only reveal some data when clicked or mouse-hovered, but even then, not all it knows. Never all it knows. That is what makes official client suck, not its graphics or ugly cheap tiny fonts on huge textboxes. It's the policy of secrecy/the programmer's vision or lack of it, not programming skill.


Maybe one day they (or one of them) will get through a major change in its inner being, and become generous and open. Then that change will be seen in their work and their client too. As they are now, if nothing major changes, they will die of old age before becoming generous with the most prised of all goods, both in real and virtual: Knowledge. No matter how much we pay them or if we play for free, nothing will ever make them show us the estimated q of what we craft BEFORE we craft, for example. Because sharing information is like giving your power away, definitely not something they would want to do :)

Wastelands. Ruins everywhere from proud civilizations, with today's survivors scavenging whatever they can carry even if they can't even use it. Eating rats cooked alive is OK for everyone. Walking around naked is natural, since very few have time to waste in getting a rag to cover their deep wounds. And the game is only Alpha.

J&L would likely refuse a lot of the custom features in amber that are incredibly useful, because they think they're ugly. In addition, they'd never add bot support. As nice as everyone using the same client would be, I don't think it's feasible.

Yeah definately I'm agree and that would be great and beneficial for this game ... but I think to fully redesign a good client it's for sure a big task, hard to figure it out and that require a lot of time ... maybe Loftar can tell us something more about but I think the main problem would be that he should need to stop developing the game and just do that for some large amount of time ... probably the best approach would be just to improve it time to time with some small features here and there like they are doing right now ... then once they have a full comprehension of what the client needs and should be would be easier to put everything together in a new client ....
Not sure, but in my opinion those are the main problems ...
We can maybe suggest what to start with.... scalable UI? Installation setup to give an easy approach to new players? Inventory and UI (windows,etc..) managment?
There are so many stuff that could be done, that's why is an hard task ... right now they are working on perfomances, that's a great thing.
Make friends with the other crabs or try to escape the bucket.

well, first off, thank you for the replies!

imo, if this game is ever gonna lift itself out of alpha it's gonna need it's own client. I cannot think of any other FTP MMO game that allows this much freedom when doing a client side custom client.

As for BoT support, was never an intended feature for this game, but if J&L wanted something along these lines, then it should be for everybody, not a select few.

I also like the idea of them working on performance, but how much does this help when you have to use the default client. All yesterday the numbers online were around the 70's then today they over a hundred, and that's because some peeps supposedly have a hotfix for the popular custom clients out there.

If I had to use the default client I straight up would not play this game.

Or then you can use Purus Pasta, the one client to rule them all!

I dont see why devs would want to get rid of custom clients. They have been around for so long. It would get lots of resistance from the players. They are not making that much harm to the game either. Actually I think that it is the opposite, some people such as romovs and enderwiggle have been using a LOT of their time for their clients without any expense to the devs.

The luxury of custom client is too tempting for longer run.

As someone who uses both custom and default (BITE ME), I can see why people would choose one or another. Probably the fix for that would be something like additional skills (animal radius / player alarm, something "Sniffing / eagle eye / whatever cool name jorb makes skill) that will cover custom client "features" but ofcourse, warrior / faction people will use custom for collision boxes, performance issues and some cool combat options or whatever etc. etc. (despite using customs for long, I still find a lot of "new" features I haven't bother to check before or don't even still use them)

Imho, removing custom clients would be a bad move, but implementing some stuff as a features in default client, would greatly help playerbase to go towards default. Whenever I spoke with people using custom clients, it was not about a way to cheese game or other players or cheat or something, it is rather some setup options, shortcuts or other stuff that allow to have more comfortable game.
