Is somebody screwing with my base??

Postby HawkyTom » Fri Mar 16, 2018 5:58 am

Hello, new player here...been playing with some friends(Real life, no shenanigans) for like a month and really enjoying the game. We know that the server has been going strong for over a year and we will never catch up or be relevant, but we are having fun and trying to learn the various mechanics...

Past couple nights some weird stuff has been happening...

-Extraction Press went missing (could've decayed maybe...but was 100% hp overnight)
-We appeared to have been gifted a horse and bull (THANKS whoever that was)...they appeared in a fenced area we had setup outside our claim that we were luring a wild auroch into and milking with clovers.
-Today we noticed every single one of our ROCKS and Ore was missing...we had like 5 piles of ore and like 7 piles of rocks....the ores were only like 20-40 quality. and we had found rocks ranging from 30-90 quality (we found the high quality ones in an abandoned mining base)...every single one is gone, all of them were on our claim, but we don't have a pallisade (I know it's dumb...but we had built near the water and a beach/cliff so it's impossible to wall in)...we were planning to eventually move and somehow pallisade ourselves.

Can stockpiles all decay overnight on a claim? Could this have anything to do with the server crash last yesterday???

Is this 100% for sure somebody is doing some Crime on our claim?? (no permissions except for my Real Life friends set as 'Green')

Would a higher level player be willing to help us out and come to my base and tell me if they see any scent of crimes to satisfy our curiosity? and possibly help us find who is tormenting us?? I could give you more information privately if your interested in helping us get to the bottom of this!

make a palisade
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I will this weekend, but have to relocate because impossible to enclose my current base because it's next to a beach/cliff+water

I'm not completely up-to-date on tracking mechanics but for someone with low stats, scents can easily be practically invisible.

It should be made more clear that you should build palisade before basically doing anything else. It's not like there's a thread like this every week but I do recall somewhat sad case of viewtopic.php?f=54&t=49740 where someone played 2 months and got into mining, then was raided and killed because didn't build palisade.

To add to confusion, I assume you can find guides that state palisade is useless because it can be bashed. This is no longer the case and even if it were, it would still provide some stop-gap to prevent everyone with theft/vandalism alt to ruin you for practically free.

If you're new player without palisade (and materials to make one), I suggest first making a claim in a cave bit further from the entrance (so it can't be seen when just peeking into the cave) and put tanning tubs and rope walk there. Store leather/rope/glue on alt until you can have them all and then build the palisade in one go so griefers can't seal it. Palisade is still bash-able first couple of days but if you don't immediately fill the inside with metal stockpiles, I doubt people will bother.

You should check the permissions on the claim, an often made error is to allow actions to the white group (=everyone).

the beauty of this game is there is no morals. death and murder is a big part of this game if you like it or not. hunt or be the hunted

List of things to do to be secure and mostly safe :

- Make claim somewhere not too close to water or cliffs.
- Flatten large enough area to your taste.
- Palisade the fuck out of that area. When creating doors, make it so that they open OUTWARD. Very important.
- Put lock on a door. If you have more than one door, you can left-click your newly-made key and right-click another lock in your inventory to set that lock to this key.
- Put locks on other doors, if any.
- Seal corners of your palisade.
- Make hearthfire inside the palisades. Friends should do that too.
- Create as many slave keys as you need for you and your friends from your master key. With those, you will be able to open doors from inside but not from outside. When you need to enter your base, just use your "teleport to hearthfire" ability.
- Store your master key somewhere in your base and never touch it.

I think i covered everything.
Oh yeah, don't trust snakes.
