Storebought Sketchbook Page

Postby windwalker111 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 7:46 pm

I uploaded my image. That went great. To make it quicker, I bought a sketchbook page from the store (and a really cool little hat). I crafted my sketch and when I moused over it, the preview looked great. I then built my knar, but now I have a knar with a blank sail. Did I miss a step or something? Thanks for a great game that's fun to play and gets the old heart beating good now and then.

Only thing I can think of is you finished the Knarr without the masterwork sketch in your inventory.

Better build another one!

cant you just apply the sketch to the knarr, ive never used one but just assumed this was how they worked. like right clicking it, or picking it up and right clicking on the sail or something

No the sketch was in my inventory and was the first thing that went into the build, everything I did was the same as the knarr made before from a sketch made from hides that worked great! Doesn't make sense to repeat the build and expect a different result!

The game files get cached, and it's often that custom colors and images don't display properly until they load into the cache. Once loaded, it takes a reload of the scene for them to show up properly.

It could be that the image didn't update in a timely fashion. It could be that it is missing. However, if the sketchpad was used, I'm inclined to think it was added, and you're just not seeing it yet.

There may also be a rendering time for the image on the server that kept it from being loaded as soon as you built it. I don't recall loftar mentioning how long, on average, it took for a custom image to be available.

That's the first thing I've heard about that. Are you sure? It shouldn't be like that.

They should definitely be immediately available.

Then maybe I've misread things from the past in discussion on it. I know at one point there were issues with some of the variable materials not showing up immediately (requiring the scene to be reloaded for them to show) due to the way the information from the server was loaded. Was that was fixed? I'd have to dig to find the thread(s) that discussed it again. Seems like one of them was discussion of village banners.

I recall some bug that caused things to display their default variable materials but I think it was fixed a long time ago.

Ah, yes, that has been fixed, but that shouldn't have affected custom images to begin with, because those are handled differently from variable materials.
