Podcast Recomendations

Postby Zentetsuken » Mon Oct 29, 2018 9:17 am

Anybody here listen to podcasts? I've only recently gotten in to them as a thing, I put them on while I'm working as an alternative to the TV or music for some background noise.

Would love to get some recommendations or hear what other people out there are listening to.

I've recently been listening to https://retronauts.com/ which is a great quality, highly informative and funny deepdive in to oldschool 8 and 16bit gaming. Highly recommend for anybody who grew up in late 80s early 90s and played all the classics.

I've also tried Talk Salad and Scrambled Eggs, which appears to be cancelled or unavailable now. It was a hilariously chill podcast by Kevin Smith that gave commentary on each episode of Fraiser. Sounds ridiculously niche but even as somebody who was never more than a casual, occasional watcher of the show it was great.

Joe Rogan's is pretty popular, and so is the H3H3 podcast

Both are on Youtube

i quite liked listening to totalbiscuit, but now since his wife has taken over, she just irks the shit out of me. I think she has claimed to have every ailment known to man during the few episodes she has hosted.

dudesoup was another, its okay.

i listened to Joe Rogan and Elon Musk, thought it was a pretty entertaining show.

I second the Penn Jillette podcast. Libertarianism done right.

The History of Rome podcast -189 episodes: http://www.sal.wisc.edu/~jwp/thor-episode-index.html

The same author has a number of historical podcasts worth listening to:
The English Civil War
The American Revolution
The French Revolution
The Haitian Revolution
Simon Bolivar and Gran Colombia
The July Revolution
The June Revolution
The Paris Commune
The Mexican Revolution

I like that he doesn't really insult anyone. He is always trying to present a better way to think and do something. I don't agree with everything, and nobody has to. The point is to listen and think.

Stuff to blow your mind podcast? They're pretty good/entertaining on some things, and self-styled-absorbed-uber-nerd-soyboi on other things. Maybe it's the annoying technocratic-scientism? Whatever. They're worth a listen.

I always watch Joe Rogan. Bill Burr and Dave Rubin aren't bad either.
