The Uninformed Player (Or, What's A Faction?)

Hello there... I happen to constantly hear about factions... AD, DIS, HH, F&I, PloksaCrew(?), and quite a few others...

My question is: Who are all these factions? Or groups? Whos apart of them? Why, if they are, important? What do they do?

I can't keep my head clear with all this talk about these groups, and most of the stories I hear are never good, though I've never even seen them, let alone interacted with them!

Can someone allow some time to let an uninformed player know just whats going on? I know its a bit late into the world, but I've always been a bit interested.

i can't speak about the current political climate, which from what i gather boils down to basically "ded game" and "w10 ghey", but historically factions have been large (20, 30 or more players) organized groups of power gamers who work together, living in the same village or groups of affiliated villages, that try to exert control of their respective areas, usually drive out, kill, or raid all noobs, hermits, and other groups in their vicinity (although this isn't always the case), and sometimes use bots, exploits, and other underhanded methods to try to be the top dogs of the server. it was a faction who built the community fair marketplace. it was probably a faction who sold you that q1000+ axe for 30 bars of iron. it's factions who usually make the game so damn scary for the little guy, but it's also factions and their drama that keep it interesting.

The lines seperating the factions are quite blurry. Most of the hardcore players switch between them almost at will. For example polska crev is fighting for HH right now afaik.

If you want to find out read through the moot threads from past worlds. If you can interpret all that autism you will know more than me.

Basically there is an inner circlejerk of about 30 players or less that are all active on the forums or discord/skype/irc. These players are divided among some well known groups with well known names. Often these names are many world's old and don't even actually occur in the current world. Basically it's just a way to define groups of fighters and players based on who has historically been playing together over the course of time. It's confusing because people change what faction they are in, become allied or enemies and talk like best buds and hang out together ingame even when they are in opposing factions all the time.

As for telling them apart, difference between factions is very simple, basically AD is the best faction with the best players and fighters and all the rest of the factions are either RPers, carebears, cheaters, noobs or worst of all, polish.

I remember how some people called me Amish, without explaining it, until some ex-Amish explained the stuff to me.

And I'm sure I've been called everything with exception of DIS, despite me never being fully introduced to any of'em.
