RIP Stan Lee

General discussion and socializing.

RIP Stan Lee

Postby Zentetsuken » Mon Nov 12, 2018 9:48 pm

After nearly 80 years of Marvel the greatest of all heros has finally fallen.

Especially with the MCU making Marvel more accessible than ever over the last 10 years I think it's safe to say that Stan Lee has garnered a lot of respect over his lifetime.

I figured in a small little community of social outcasts and nerds like this it wouldn't fall on deaf ears to have a little thread dedicated in his honour.

Maybe just consider it a general Marvel/comics/mcu type appreciation thread.

RIP Mr. Lee <3

Some old fart died. Who cares! He was not even active on his career anymore
Of course it is sad at the same level as deaths of other people, which is actually not that sad, because so many people die every day. No one makes forum threads for them.

I'm just disapointed that we have Spiderman Ten and barely anything new.

I guess sitting your kids down in front of a television from the age of two destroys their imagination and turns them into retards.

This old fart influenced more than 3/4s of a century of media and arts, probably many things you care about today.

I've just made a thread to pay respects for a man who influenced lots of media we may all enjoy, not to gush about how sad it is. You are free to make forum threads about any old farts or niches that interest you. There are surely more people here that care about Stan Lee than the state of healthcare in Finland.

I see this being inscribed on someone's tombstone in the future...

I know everyone says Lee ripped off too much of DC, but I see it as more him taking comic book superheroes and doing what nobody else did: using real world actions of the time to tell a story of what the next stage of evolution could be like... and the resulting issues. At the same time, bringing the realities of racism and discrimination to the attention of the next generation; showing facts like when we find we tools, people do good and bad with them; and many other things that other publishers ignored.

I won't completely miss those movie cameos, though. Too many of them were just completely forced. (Note: I won't be surprised if the CGI in his death as cameo somehow in an upcoming movie. And to Disney: if you steal this idea, I'm going to come demanding my paycheck!)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I just wish they let the poor guy live out his last days in peace rather than forcing him to do cameos in every single Marvel movie.

I wonder if those people will be coming for his money stronger than ever now that he's gone. Sad really.

Never liked comics, but Stan Lee was a cool old goat akin to Heffner in my opinion.

... Forcing ...
Seems to me you got that backwards.
Besides Stan Lee was not the type of person to do stuff he didn't want to do.
... He maintained an active live, because he wanted to stay active. Cameos and smile included.

After some digging around. (As I recall that the cameo thing was something that Stan Lee himself made part of a contract)
Stan doesn't just randomly turn up for these things though. He actually has a contract stating that every time a new work is based on his creations, he has to be offered a role.

Source:fandom.wikia.com/articles/stan-lees-marvel-cameos
Credibility: unclear/questionable(Wikia). (only 'contract' related case I could found so far)

quora.com/Is-it-contractual-for-Stan-Lee-to-be-in-each-one-of-the-Marvel-films
Result: No obligation on either party.

Side note: Stan Lee did not appear in all Marvel Comics movies. He was never invited to cameo in Fantastic Four (2015).

Source: quora.com/Why-does-Stan-Lee-give-a-cameo-appearance-in-all-Marvel-movies
Fantastic Four (2015) - ... , and Stan Lee pointed out "The Fantastic Four flopped because I didn't get a cameo."

... LOL.
Source: quora.com/Which-Marvel-movies-have-not-included-Stan-Lee-cameos

Lets end with ... youtube: Every Stan Lee Cameo Ever (1989-2018)
Enjoy (or not of course). He did, I'm sure.
