Email to old players - New World

Postby Castille » Sat Jan 26, 2019 10:28 am

Just a suggestiong, how about sending an e-mail to all registered accounts that a new world is going to happen?
Was just luck that i stumpled into the forums today and saw the thread.

I think you can bring in alot of people that is not aware that a reset is happening.
I doubt they would be just as willing if they noticed the reset 2 months after...

For what purpose? To increase statistics and less comfortable game?

To increase playerbase and revenues for the developers.
And also give everyone who is interested a fair chance to attend the new world from start.

EDIT: And common sense really. Most games that do some sort of wipe or announce something game-breaking usually send out an email to every subscribed account. It's a good way to get more attention and bring back old players.

Why not? An increased influx of players means potentially more income for the devs in the form of hats/subscriptions/tokens. Not to mention that an increase in publicity would be much welcome for a game like Haven that gets buried under all the other larger titles.

We know server gonna be not far from its limits during the start.

Games aren't politics. Bad publicity is really much worse than no publicity. If there are more players than server can handle it doesn't help the game at all. Even bigger titles are often struggling with overhyped starts.

Not saying that such an e-mail is necessary a bad thing. Just pointing out possible flaws.

Temporarily or even reduce (more players => more conflict of interests => more disappointments and quits)?

Maybe.

It sounds nice, but... Has someone taken away the interested(!) people from a chance(!)?

This is called advertising (or just spam).

I clarified the purpose of the "universal convocation", but did not write "no!" (Why yes?).

If the developers write this, I will unconditionally believe (because they have statistics). In other cases, it is just a hypothesis.

Well, I can only say for myself: I personally feel more comfortable playing when there are 150-200 active players on the server, and not 1000-1500, as at the start of the W10.

Now let's compare this to a store.

Employee: Hey boss, if we send out some advertisment then we could get more customers on opening.
Manager: Nahh, i'm not sure the store can handle extra customers.
Employee: Isn't the point to have a large customer base?
Manager: Yes, but not more then the store can handle.
Employee: So we should limit our customerbase to the store size?
Manager: Exactly!

If there are more players then the server can handle, then that is a GOOD thing. It means that the playerbase is growing, and the solution is not too limit this, but instead adapt the servers to handle more traffic. But if the point is not too grow the playerbase, then sure, don't notify your fans. It does not make any sense though...

Sometimes a dozen loyal customers are more valuable than a thousand potential buyers. In pursuit of an abstract quantity, you can lose quality.
I'm not saying that you are wrong, but you are not absolutely right.

Yes, that point is valid. You can see that in mobilegames. But you do not get another dozen loyal customers, or even the first one by not making people aware that you have a product too sell.

Also, this is a MMORPG. The whole point of the game is to have a playerbase to interact with...
