Is server hardware a bottleneck for game performance ?

Postby dullah » Tue Feb 19, 2019 8:05 pm

/Title

I am curious what kind of hardware the server runs.

Are CPU, RAM, or storage IO - bottlenecks ?
Or is the software implementation the culprit ?

They're using JAVA to run their game in 2018 - Thats the main culprit

Game server is written in C.

I think the server runs on some linux distro, and is pure C

AFAIK the issue is stalls from disk I/O, according to the devs the preparations for a server upgrade (SSD instead of spinning rust) is in progress.

2019 and they are not using ssd for their game server?
I am greatly surprised...

I wonder if the server is multithreaded well, if it is, then performance can probably be improved by just buying bigger servers for a good while!

To devs:
If you think that moving the server causes some downtime. Dont worry about it. I am sure that people would rather have the game down for a few hours (or even longer time, like a day), than keep playing with this lag.

From what I understand it is not, but it is partially multiprocess. This is just what I have glean from what loftar have say.
