http or https in forums internal links

Postby borka » Tue Feb 26, 2019 11:14 pm

As some already experienced following a https link internally in forums you are asked by your browser to accept a self signed certificate from dolda2000 (loftar) ... which has pros and cons ... while following a hhtp goes without hassle ...

Prolly the best way is to agree on using http for linking in here ...

The reason i made this thread is this:

btw. nobody bothered to play legacy back then with a self signed cert by loftar for Java ;) - the actual game uses a paid one ...

Maybe he has collected all login information of every forum user because of the site not forcing to use SSL and is soon going to release them?

Since one of my PM interactions got posted*, I stand by what I think. If you don't want to use the self-signed cert, it's not that hard to edit "http" for "https." There are also options of always having https connections without worrying about whether or not the destination site supports it. HTTPS Everywhere is one means, is popular and can be used with Firefox and other major browsers. It's bundled with the TOR Browser Bundle automatically. Just using TOR is another way of securing your connection with websites.

Several people use HTTPS and the links show up on the site as such. I don't think I'm going to take such a burden upon myself to edit any links that show up this way. Part of using the Internet is being smart and educated about the Internet. Use at your own risk.

*which doesn't really bother me. I try not to say anything via PM I don't want showing up on the forums, because hey, I expect to be held accountable.

Issue is that many people dont even know what https is and will be vulnerable to exploits. It is stupid to assume that all the users are nerds that know about such things and are ready to use their time and effort for such things.

"this pedal is for speed - the more you press the faster"

"Oh great that's what i'm looking for .... vroooom vroooom"

"this is the pedal for braking"

"Oh f*** gtfo with this nerd stuff!"

Internets yay! vrooom vrooom ...

funny enough everyone wants to vroom vroom but when it comes to security for all it's nerdstuff ... ;)

Nice analogy, borka.
