Naval warfare aka boat punching

It is a curious aspect of upcoming (we all hope) fighting system. While devs might have a point on that, during the stream I've noticed that there might be no solution on knarr fighting yet. So, I'd like to concentrate on it for now.
What I'd like to suggest is the attack direction for each "slot" of the ship. Basically, it will turn naval fights into something similar to Sid Meyer's "Pirates!" or "Corsairs" where you can "shoot" from one side of your ship, then make a turn a "shoot" from another. But in this case your team siting on the ship's side will have to perform their attacks on their own. Cooldowns on attacks will force captain to turn the ship and use the opposite side, and also it will force people to take their places on the ship in a balanced way - on both sides - or all-in for one side. This system kinda continues the direction/movement-based system and also implies a coordination between attackers and their captain.
And with those mythical "object-controlled objects"... Damn, son.

Also, feel free to post your thoughts on smaller boats fighting as well

TBH melee between boats makes zero sense. Naval combat should be bows only.

Why? Ship boarding was one of the primary means of naval combat up until about 100 years ago. The boat punching thing is dumb as hell, though. Should have been fixed immediately after knarrs were introduced. (Probably before because two people in a rowboat were able to do the same thing.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I dont get it are you saying all the players on a ship should be treated like a single entity so like the captain comes alongside an enemy knarr and does an attack using the cumulative stats of all the players on that side of the ship? What if the enemy ship has weak players on the side you hit, all those players just get KO'd or something?

It barely makes much logical sense to me, considering what a knarr is but from a gameplay perspective it might be better than current system idk, seems weird

Boat fights are just plain stupid until objects on objects is implemented. No arguments. It is a fact. Naval warfare has always been about missiles and boarding. It should be possible to shoot missiles at boats and from boats. It should be possible to sink boats. It would be cool to have a ballista which would mount in a spot on larger boats. It would be cooler if these ballista could also be placed on land. If your boat sinks you should get sucked down with it just like in real life. If you do not swim clear fast enough.

The very suggestion that melee combat between boats should be possible (without boarding first) infuriates me to the point where I need to do breathing exercises to keep myself calm. Just fucking no alright. Board the damned vessel first.

You also posted this in the wrong subforum. Shame on you for pretending not to know better.
