metal deadzone

Are these common?

for atleast 2 minimaps around my base on both lvl 1 and 2 i can spot no metal.
there is no ping on my q 30 rustroot anywhere.

are these areas common? since ive found 2 of these so far.

I was in one of those last world. I had to go like 3 tiles away until I found ore.
