Bitching about Adders

Postby Artyom15 » Sat Mar 21, 2020 1:49 pm

Fucking finally found a vein of ore, got the shit ready to mine it out, hauling my water over and I take two seconds to shoot out a text while waiting and get aggroed by an Adder. 1 Adder Bite. One fucking bite. -15 STR.

Time to strip naked, play around in the leeches to get my bruises healed up, buff my energy up to 10,000% and climb in a bed and pray.

I know it's my fault for not paying better attention, but god damn tonight has generated a lot of salt. 30 minutes to finish my shit up then I'm gonna go take a nap.

I love Haven, but fuck I really hate Haven at the same time.

Edit: Already up to 3 in the time it took to write this post! My reading makes me hope it'll peak around 20-30, but man I'm still worried.

Edit 2: Up to 4, but at least it's the time of day for Dewy Lady's Mantles - good Hearth giveth, good Hearth taketh away I guess.

Edit 3: Finally got a poultice and some toad butter on some wounds - fuck midges, fuck concussions, I hope this peaks soon and goes away within the day. I was so close to getting some fuckin' ore god damnit.

Edit 4: Peaked at 32, surprised at how fast it's going away from there. I was expecting this to last 2-3 days.

Edit 5: Only 12 hours - guess the salt wasn't necessary, that went away a lot faster than I expected.

I was raging about concussion and the mouflon nerf for a full day. I can't even make dandelion tea. I don't even care if it's a placebo!

Concussion! No! Reeee.
Laying flat.

Don't adders need a combat opening to inflict Adder Bite? Are you running around with 1 UA? Two seconds isn't nearly enough to get bitten. AFAIK adder bites are always the player's own fault. Unlike Midge Bites; midges are basically the mustard gas of Haven, completely denying you the opportunity to stand still in a large area. You won't die from it, but it'll fuck you over nonetheless. And sometimes, that mustard gas gets dropped right over your base. Guess you shouldn't stand still inside your base!

Compared to that, adders are no problem. If you were standing still for long enough to get bitten by an adder, you could also have gotten mauled by a bear or similar. You know you're in a dangerous location; getting a wound for idling without paying attention is entirely your own fault.

P.S.: Fuck midges.

Couple days ago my buddy ran headlong into an adder he didn't see because the sketchy third party software coded by a an internet stranger specifically to made this game more playable didn't warn him. See, my sketchy third party software drew a big ole red circle around the fucker

Midges

Evidence that the developers actually hate us. I once got KO'd by one after hearthing home from another KO. I was on my way to my bed from my fire. Moved my HF indoors after that. How do you get a concussion from a goddamn midge bite.

Got one opening up to 40 while before I could sprint behind a cliff to fuck over it's pathfinding. Nicked me for two damage.

Never said it wasn't my own fault - as I said, I should've been paying attention. If I hadn't taken my eyes off the screen, I would've noticed I was walking right by an adder and, y'know, not done that dumb shit of walking 2 feet away from it.

This mostly just put a cap on my salt after I thought olivine = chalcopyrite because I'm colorblind as shit lmao and I found out that after 3 days of buffing my STR to mine it.

Turns out that circle doesn't do shit when you pull a big dumb and assume the path you usually take is safe.

I had five midge swarms chasing me when I was playing in the leeches. Ran into a cave to heal so I could play in them more to get my bruises down to leech burns for a solid 20 minutes. The second I walked out, there were midges there waiting to suck my blood.

I feel your pain. I've learned the hard way to never, ever take your eyes off the screen. I've learned to quickly log out just in case of things like someone at the door or a phone call. I never even get in a fight without being close to a way to escape.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I should have already learned my lesson, honestly. Back in Legacy I got aggroed and straight-up murdered by a bear. Guess you gotta relearn lessons every few years.

If you don't already have Antcid Burns, Midge Bite is at least an inherent debuff that prevents you from fighting ants. (Beesting is an inevitable wound if you use your main for farming.) That's in addition to midge-induced concussions of course (and again, the fact that you can't be anywhere where midges are remotely close if you're low on HP).
