Optimal Base Ideas?

Postby Colton_M_Lewis » Mon Apr 20, 2020 7:20 am

Hey guys, i am planning on moving my base to a different location, this one has outgrown my fancy/needs.

But planning my base layout is currently aggravating.

I have added to my base design layout:
stone mansion(main house)
timber house(storage)
4 tar kilns
4 smelters
crucible
2 finery forges
anvil
mine hole(walled in to prevent people tunneling into base from underground)
9 7x7 farms with a beehive in the center of each one
an area for cooking
20 drying racks
14 tanning tubs
3 7x7 animal pens(cows, sheep, horses)
area for excess stockpiles

Any other tips/ideas/necessities???

Also if someone could tell me how to import my ms paint image, I could post my layout I've made for better critique.

Even if your advice is unhelpful in the end, i still thank you!!

Do you plan to make steel or silk, because I don't see proper planing towards theese areas. If you go for steel you'd need much more tar kilns.

don't forget chicken coops and maybe a well, a place to plant trees, and garden pots if you plan to use them

Best suggestion here is to use a 3rd party image host that will allow you to link the image directly. Without that, you can upload the image as an attachment, but there are size requirements, both in dimension and MB. Make sure you save as .jpg or .png type if you plan on uploading as an attachment.

How many tar kilns would you suggest?

i would put all things like tarkilns, smelters, etc in level 1 of mine. no need for them on the surface.

I'd go so far as to say that only your farms, treefarms, and maybe your livestock even belong on the surface. plenty of space below, plus no one will see it

Disagree immensely. If you have 5 steel crucibles, then you only need 20 coal a week. 1 single tar kiln would be more than enough (but would make 2 to be safe). You may still want more to get tar to build a dock and knarr, but this is addressing the steel concern.

Then just use sticks to refuel the steel crucible once it's going. Chances are you'll be splitting sticks at a higher quality than the coal your kilns pump out as a hermit. Better than having 8 5x5 spaces (200 squares) doing nothing when you get to good quality black coal.
