Flames licked about his blood covered feet. Screams of agony and panic surrounded the village as the clock bells chimed their last time. Her lifeless corpse lay still where she was struck, and the giant beast towered over him, triple his height.
In the distance fire and brimstone rained down on what she once called her "favorite grassland". People, friends and family yelled here and there, some at him to move, some at others to run. His ears were deafened by pain.
Its eyes filled with rage, it stared down upon him, as if proud of its doing. Bats circled around its head, shrieking an awful tune.
His torn flesh could barely hold the sword, every flex of muscle sent waves of hurt across him. Her blood soaked his chest and his tears streamed down his face.
Their eyes locked, time stood still. Arms at his side he stared into the abyss of the monster's gaze, covered in wicked fungi and gore-splattered hair. It flicked its tail back and forth like a kitten at play.
In the blink of an eye he thrust his blade. He didn't know what he was doing, and it seemed the beast didn't either. The world began to fade, as a blur of red, orange and black mixed together, swirling around them.
The beast roared and stepped back, but he didn't let go. As it turned he kept a firm grip, and the edge tore through its stomach. Blood poured forth, mixing with countless others'.
His mind filled with limitless thoughts. Adrenaline coursed through his veins. Sight and sound were no more, his last good eye barely open. All senses were pointless, as here at the end the only thing he knew was the grip on his sword.
The beast screamed and grabbed a hold of his cloak. It tried to tear him away but its strength wavered. The more it pulled on him, the more he pulled on the blade.
It fell to the ground, wimpering. He stood atop now, looking down, down at its guts spilled out. Its limbs twitched, covered in the cuts of a thousand axes.
His legs began to buckle as he could feel the vibration in the air of a ear splitting sound of a meteor crashing into a tower. His grip never faltered.
"I heard the flax is better over there. Can't we move there, please?"
Everything was for nought, he realized, as the blood red skies split apart, spewing dust and fire.
"Someone's bashing the west wall! Is this a siege?! What's happening?"
Every moment, death was near, one step behind, waiting, waiting...
"What is that thing?! Is this the end!?"
At least, he thought,
"It's getting in! The walls are falling! It's all over!"
At least he killed it in the end.
Burning flames erupted from the earth. Every living creature breathed their last breath in symphony as the church bells fell.
The rotting world burned. All he knew was untold suffering, as he felt his own flesh drip and fall off his bones.
The world went dark, darker then the deepest mine he'd ever entered. Unimaginable, choking darkness.
But at the end, a light?
Suddenly, he felt as if he was knee deep in water, and as he looked down, he couldn't see his knees at all.
"Sarai?"
