How am I supposed to survive till my palisade is up against multiple people working together or people who play 24/7? Someone managed to get murder + vandalism before I can get a palisade up. There was nothing I could have done, except watch myself get wiped. And now my time-locked protection has been reset, making me fall behind even more people, further decreasing my odds of "making it".
I got my hides on drying racks within a couple of hours of world start, hides in tanning tubs within a couple hours of them drying, and I was in the middle of building the palisade within half a day of the leather finishing. I didn't do any terraforming/paving, the mini-map was kept 100% natural. I did what I could do to get the Pali up as fast as possible, the only thing else I could have done was wake up at 4am to move the hides to the tubs, or skip work to grab the leather/build the wall, hello???
To add to the fact that someone can get murder + vandalism faster than a palisade, there was no way for me fight back. He had a boar spear, and I would imagine better stats, but of course I do not know what his are. I just can not achieve all of this in such short time as a hermit.
It was kind of cute seeing the 1 damage ticks he got for stealing and murdering me on my claim, like I'm sure he was real scared of taking that 1 damage! How will he ever recover!
"Just join a group", "Wait for the population to die down in x-amount of time", "settle in a really shitty spot, or in the far end of a cave", 'Play in this very specific way, don't worry about your life outside of videogames, videogames aren't supposed to be fun!'.
What about a new wall type that is in-between the aesthetic round pole/stone wall, and the palisade. Maybe uses dry hide instead of leather. It has low soak value/hit points, but can't be hand bashed. Then add a new siege equipment that is made with hides also, but takes x-amount of time to dry. This gives the defending person(s) a window of time to log in and bash the siege equipment to protect themselves. If the attacking person(s) really want in, they'll have to stay there to protect it for how ever long it takes, versus just being able to literally walk in, steal, destroy, and murder whenever they please. The idea is to enable your normal person to defend themselves before murder + vandalism goblins have the skills unlocked. This would lower the gap between the goblins and the normal folk in terms of survivability, at world start.
